Default foliage inquiry/tried to make a new friend
My pit pup has a bad habit of chewing on any plant matter he finds in the yard (not that there is much there yet). I would like to try to do some gardening this year. Can anyone suggest a website or have list of outdoor plants that may be poisonous so I can avoid planting them?

A slightly funny related note. Today Huan tried to make a new friend. The slender, slithering kind. With the warmer weather, our yard has been rather full of garder snakes. (I have seen four this week) Huan found one today and attempted to play with it. I wouldn't have seen the snake if it weren't for him. I told Huan to get away which he did and shooed the snake into my neighbor's yard. My husband is also TERRIFIED of snakes. My "tough guy" with dragon tatoos runs away from them screaming like a girl. This is going to be an interesting summer.

Keep indoor houseplants out of reach of your puppy - pretty much all of them are poisonous to some degree.

Some dangerous outdoor garden plants include tomatoes (the plant, not the fruits), rhubarb leaves, all parts of foxglove.

For trees and shrubs, an easy rule is that if its evergeen, its poisonous to some degree - ie, rhodedenderons, laurels are very poisonous. Also, seeds from tree fruits are poisonous in large numbers, so don't allow the dog to graze on a bunch of cherries (my dog actually likes to pick cherries with my kids so I've seen it happen), plums, even apple seeds are bad in high numbers. All parts of the cherry tree are poisonous other than the actual fruit itself, and oak is also not a good tree for the dog to be ingesting.

What type of garden are you looking to plant? It may actually be easier to suggest dog friendly plants!
