Default Question for PA People and Also, one for NC People..
PA people,

I was talking to my Mom last night, and she told me that her friend has some shih tzu puppies and offered my Mom one. Being the non-animal person my Mom is. She declined. However, the lady said that she already has two dogs, and that she is going to keep one of the pups, but that she needs to find homes for the rest, since, the state of PA has a law that you are only allowed three dogs per household, unless you apply for a kennel license. Is this true? Or is a County law? Or is the woman just confused?

NC People,

Are there any state laws saying how many dogs you can have before you need a kennel license? If there are, do you know what the number would be? If not, do you think it would be a county deal?

Where would you find something like this out?

I'm not aware of that law CHJ. I licensed my dogs in December, and the county had no issues sending them to me.

There have been changes to the dog laws, but I believe it's if you sell/adopt dogs, not if you keep them as pets. County to county, township to township the laws may vary.

I know where your mom is, and I'm pretty sure there are no restrictions. Your best bet would be to call Sue at the shelter! I'd call for you, but they close at 4.

State law in PA allows you to own/produce 25 dogs per year without requiring a kennel license. There might be restrictions placed by more local govt. (county/city/town/whatever) but it wouldn't be state.
