We had one when I was about 6 years old who I loved greatly. She was solid brindle with a little white on her chest and weighed about 45lbs. She loved the immediate family, women and kids but hated all men lol. The jack ass junk yard neighbor up the block from us had a bunch of pits that he let run loose and they were always terrozing the neighbor hood kids and killing everyones pets until Dutchess came along

I have had them since i was about two years old. We took in a lot of dogs from the guy down the street that was a [] guy. He would just kinda drop them off when he was done with them and we would take them in and let them live the rest of there lives out at our house. Thats how i came to fall in love with game-breds. I have always had at least one pit since then. They are the greatest breed i have ever owned and i don't want anything else.

I saw Big Girl get dumped, I initially planned on finding her a home, but fell in love with her and decided to keep her!! Well since I had no experience with the breed I started researching and discovered how much false information is out there. I try to tell people the truth about our breed every opportunity I get.

My uncles use to be BIG on game dogs the old Colby lines actually. Ever since we was little we use to watch him work his dogs and even let us play with the dogs. It wasn't till I turned 18 and I started to get into the dogs more than just walking, feeding, and playing with the dogs. The other years before I was 18 (I was more into females..

I can thank my neighbor's son, the state fair, and a backyard breeder for my love of the breed.
Nala was an 8 week old APBT (Hemphill/Wilder) pup who was auctioned off at the state fair 4 years ago. My neighbor's son purchased a raffle just for kicks, what were the chances? Well, he ended up with the dog. They aren't dog people. I still remember the first time I saw her, 10 weeks old with a huge chain around her neck. She was so sweet, but I couldn't understand the chain. I found Jessup's site a few days later, and printed out a few articles for them to read. Well, time went by and Nala grew. She turned into a rambunctious bulldog, and damn I thought she was insane. I started working with her. Basic obedience: Sit, stay, down, the works. I loved her and started to do research on the breed. I came home with all of Stratton's books, Jessup's book, even the generic "Caring for Your American Pit Bull Terrier" ones. I found PBF & game-dog and they became huge resources for me. Fast foward a year later, and we're at a local rescue... Supposedly looking at a GSD to adopt. Well someone beat us to him. I mention that I am really looking for a pit bull, and the woman takes me out back. It's dark so I can't see much of anything, but I can hear it. This short, stout, and snorty little dog comes running out of his dog house and hits the end of his chain. I sit down and he starts kissing me. Well, it was love. A few weeks later, we brought Howie home. Since then my family has gotten two more bullies and we've gotten into pit bull rescue through HAPBTR. I'm active in attending local shows and damn I can't get enough bulldogs. (It's cross-posted. No points for my originality) |
