Default weight pulling harnesses.
Hello. I would love to train my dog Porter to pull. He has some serious strength. My problem is, I'm on disability and can't afford to buy a harness. I would really appreciate it if some one could tell me were I could find the blue prints to make one myself. Any feed back would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Are you sure Porter would like to do weight pull, or that YOU would like to do it?

If you can't afford a harness at the time, maybe you can go to some trials and see if anyone will let you borrow one for a little bit to see if Porter really likes it?

I know someone, maybe on another forum? no, I think it was here.. was looking to make a weight pull harness. Try the equipment section maybe?

Good advice on borrowing a harness to see if he'll pull. Otherwise, you might just contact some harness makers and explain your situation. They might give you specs. Or you could even just search for pull harness pictures and then try to copy the design.

Have you checked e-bay or craigslist? Sometimes, you can get stuff really cheap on e-bay. We just bought one of the converter boxes that run $70, for $27 on e-bay.... so you might check on there. I'd give it a shot, you never know what you could find on there cheap, maybe someone that's retired from weight pulling, and just looking to get rid of their equipment. Good luck!

I like baha's idea about contacting some people that make the harnesses, as well. Maybe they can help you out, or guide you through making one. Most everyone I've talked to with harnesses are really nice and helpful! I can give you the email address of the woman I was going to get my harness from, and that a friend got hers from if you'd like.

So are you just planning on having the dog pull stuff around your yard? Because I was just thinking, the price of the harness is the tip of the iceberg when it comes to doing weight pull. You'll pay almost as much entering two days of pulls, not to mention travel expenses, hotels, etc. Just a thought.
