Aquarium Siphon

Does anyone have a recommendation for an aquarium siphon? I'm willing to pay for a good, motorized siphon (if such a one exists!). I've looked all over but can't find anything that looks legit, just work arounds such as "I used my canister filter as a siphon".

The tank is a 90 gallon tank containing red-eared slider turtles. I just need to be able to siphon out the water into a bucket, or if there is a long hose, I'll just have it go outside. Also, it would be great to have a some similar hose-style set-up for refills.

I'm grateful for any recommends!

Check out gravel siphons. They usually have a valve on em that allows you to wiggle it up and down to get the water started.

If you get a long enough piece of half-inch tubing at one of the big-box hardware stores, you can suck on the end to start the siphon and have plenty of time to stop before you get a mouthful of aquarium water. I've done that to empty a fountain on a porch, but YMMV.

nasty!
Buy a siphon you hook up to your faucet. I had one for a very large fish tank I used to have. Worked great.

Yeah, at this point, that seems to be my best bet. Thanks all for the feedback! (And I welcome more if there is any. http://www.philadelphiaspeaks.com/fo...lies/smile.png )

You could get a tube and a small soda bottle. Cut the bottom of the bottle off to make it look like a funnel and ream a hole in the cap slightly bigger than your hose. Put the hose in the bottle and tape it really well.

Take the homemade beer bong and scoop some water up in the bottle and hold it above the surface of the water and begin draining. This should get the siphon action going w/out using your mouth. Before the bottle completely empties out the tube submerge it back in the aquarium.

Interesting. Might give that a try too.
