Default Special Relativity:
When Einstein formulated SR, he was adamant [damn near arrogant actually] that this was the way it was, and he was 100% correct.
It was also quickly accepted by the scientific community in general.
Yet [at that time in 1905/06] there was no observational and/or experimental evidence to support it.
Other then maybe the Michelson/Morley experiment of which a section of the scientific community had there doubts about the accuracy of such an experiment.
Of course subsequent technological advancement, refinement in measuring and precision of todays instruments fully support the great man's confidence and the validity of SR.

Yet the scientific community in general have trouble accepting string theory or one of its many derivitives.
The same situation applies in that we lack the precision and accuracy to measure and observe at those levels

An interesting observation on my part I say.
