Default Muckaty dumps advances in reconcilation
The decision to host a nuclear waste dump at Muckaty Station in the Northern Territory is an affront to the hard-won advances in reconciliation.

It has to be built somewhere. Preferably somewhere remote. None of the states are volunteering to host it, so it leaves only NT or ACT as places where the Federal Government has jurisdiction to intervene directly and resume land for the purpose. Somewhere in the NT is pretty much the only option available. It's going to impinge on some traditional land wherever it goes, it's inevitable. I think it's a mistake to see this as singling out any particular tribe or group.

Maybe there should be debate about 'dumping' it at the same place it is generated?

People generate a lot more waste when they don't have to look at it?

From what I understand it is waste from medical and industrial uses. Most of it is stored where it was used - like shipping containers out in the carpark. Sending it back to where it was produced I guess means suburban Sydney.
