Dis-assembling a WD Elements external HDD
I find myself in need of a HDD and poking around my cupboard the only drive I have with the interface and capacity I'm after is enclosed in a WD case.
Does anybody have any experience opening these cases and what tips/tricks would be useful in allowing me to continue using the case as an extena caddy but remove the drive inside. It doesn't appear to have any screws that I can see but the case might have some secret unlocking mechanism |
they have little hidden plastic tabs inside the case that need to be prised open
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4OiupJcqFAM shows where/how they are (I prefer a small screwdrier rather than a knife- less likely to hurt yourself if it slips) |
(I prefer a small screwdrier rather than a knife- less likely to hurt yourself if it slips) Yep, punctures & gashes are much more preferable than slicing things off completely. Jewelers drivers are great for these sort of things.

cheers, that's saved me $90 and a trip to Port Adelaide
