Default Obama wants the DTV switch postponed till June 12th
"DailyTech reported earlier this month that the Obama transition team isn't too happy with the current state of the analog to digital TV (DTV) switch. The funds made available to provide $40 DTV conversion boxes to Americans ran out at the start of 2009 and many Americans would be left without TV signals once the DTV switch occurs next month."

So whos still using rabbit ears hahaha. I also have another question, all my channels on my HDTV look like **** because their not in HD, once a primetime show comes on they look clean. After the DTV switch will my channels finally look normal?

The hell obama? These people have had a decade of postponement. I say everyone not prepared is shot and their valuables seized to help the economy.

He wants it delayed because the govt ran out of money for the converter box coupons so they're all out of them.

Apparently, you're forgetting the IQ level of said masses. Also, it seems the allocation of funds by the previous administration wasn't enough.

actually, from what i have read, the allocation of funds is enough for the people who actually need them, it is just that alot of people who don't, got requested the coupon anyway, and they are waiting on the coupons that wont be used but have been sent to expire, or somesuch

What? If someone is still using an antenna for TV, they don't deserve to watch TV

Why even bother to give coupons? Surely people can afford $40 which seems quite a lot considering you can get them here for $20 which is about $10us at the moment. Also why can't you have both? Seems like he is already pandering to media corporations, not a good sign.

So much for Change.

The minority that still uses antennas has had plenty of notice....

What about those that enjoy multiple different HD channels using an antenna for free? Pretty sweet deal in my opinion. Also OTA HD looks better than most cable HD feeds.

Very true. OTA HD blows away Time Warner's feed in my area.

Of course..if you're getting OTA HD then the whole DTV switch doesn't effect you anyways.

Where is the CTO saying this is bullshit and only makes things more expensive for everyone because 2 things have to be run at the same time?

Well right but I was commenting on his general statement.

Gotcha.

In any case, pushing gack the switch really doesn't effect me at all. All our local stations are already broadcasting in digital (and in HD at that).
The only downside to pushing the date back, for me anyways, is that my analog TV watching party will have to be pushed back as well.

Why is it so important that people don't go a day without tv? Will it really be the end of the world if they do the switch, and someone has to wait 2-4 weeks to get a coupon.

I use an antenaa. Plugged into a freeview box

I don't even know what the big deal is...nearly any TV with a scart socket is DTV capable. Do you Americans really have that many TV's working off RF?

Oh, you'd be surprised. Living in Florida, I've been in some older people's homes where it felt like I went into a time machine and traveled 50 years ago.

At least in america they gave out coupons. In the UK, we just had to fork out the entire cost ourselves! Luckily I've got Freeview and Sky+ HD so i'm set, even though it wont be until 2011 before our analogue is switched off from Sutton Coldfield (BBC1, 2, ITV3 and 4) transmitter and Lichfield (Channel 5) transmitter.

as soon as people turn on their tv and cant watch american idol they will get off their ass and find out what they need to buy to make it work again, this will happen in feb if they leave it, or it will happen in june if they postpone it, its all over the news everyday if you arent ready for the switch you have no excuse. delaying it is stupid, they've only had 2 years or some crap of formal warning in the media and whatnot.
