It lists IE, but I never use that. I don't imagine that it would be a problem with cleaning it even though I don't use it. Do you think I should uninstall MalwareBytes, even though it doesn't have a real time monitor? I know there can be conflicts, but I just thought that since it seems to be an anti spyware program it wouldn't be a problem. Keep MB. It will run with Avast ok. That is a good program.

MB is fine. It is just an anti spyware so it will not conflict with Avast

And yes avoiding registry cleaners is a good idea. They do not always know what to remove and can crash a computer

If you still have problems and want a reference where to go online let me know. I am a member of a good tech site and they might have some luck. You could run HiJack This and that might show something. Just don't try to correct anything on your own. The scan won't do anything but if you try to remove anything it can cause a crash if you mess it up

Do you defrag your hard drive?

My computer is set up by default to defrag once each week, I think. I have no idea if it actually does it. Should I do it manually just to be sure? http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif I have Vista.

Ouch....far too often, once a month is suffice. Nah, personally I do that manually but if you do it once a week..ouch...it wouldn't be the residing problem

It maybe you have a lot of software that is running in the background. Plus if you have toolbars on your browsers (it would be a cardinal sin if someone installed even one on my computer) get rid of them, because they tend to slow down computers even if you are not using the internet (big time virus/malware/trojan carriers)

You might have too many programs going on in the computer at once.

If you :

Click on the START button
Then Type RUN in the search (there will be a program called "run")
When RUN comes up - type MSCONFIG

You should see a box that comes up that say's: General,Services, Boot, Start Up and Tools.

If you click the START UP option it will tell you everything that starts up when you turn on your computer.
And if i am not mistaken, if you click on Services that shows all the services you have going on at the moment.
