Default *sigh* I'm so confused. Running out of hard drive space
I've got the worst headache in decades today and now is not the time for me to be dealing with computer issues, but I must.

I have a 149 GB capacity hard drive, and have used up 135 GB of space. What's my best option here (and cheapest)??

My old Lotus program (that I use for work because that's where all our complicated spreadsheet programs were written and I'm too stupid to successfully convert them to Excel) won't let me print now that I've used up so much space. I just now cleaned it up to only 135 GB used and it will print. Won't let me print with 138 GB used. One of these days I'm going to really have to go through and delete a bunch of stupid old video clips of the cats and neighbor kids -- that's what's taking up so much space -- but I don't have time right now.

Should I just buy an external hard drive and dump all my videos on that thing for the time being? Or get more space on my computer?

Brain.is.not.working.today. Any help appreciated.

Hard drives are cheap. You can get very large hard drives for very little cash. Buy a new hard drive and pay a good computer tech to install it. A good computer tech will clone your old hard drive onto your new one and solve all your hard drive problems.

Do you know if your current computer supports SATA drives? If you don't know the answer to that then tell me what make and model number is your computer. Ex: an HP Pavilion A5000 or a Dell Demension L40. What ever.

Cheap is good. I'll look into that -- thanks!

BFFT - Some of those video clips I really want to save but I just don't have the time right now to go through them and find out which to keep.

Oh, btw nline - it's a Dell Dimension 5150. I told my boss I was going to need a bigger hard drive two years ago when we bought this one.

That's older the two years. Or at least the model was introduced about 4 years ago.

It's slow and low end today, with just a single core processor.

Really? Now I'm curious as to how long I've had this thing. So . . . would it just be better to get a new unit?

ETA: I was bought new from Dell online in April 2007. Geez, louise, do we really need to be buying new computers every 2-3 years to keep up???

Hard to say but keep in mind the processor in that unit was state of the art in 2005. So it was technically outdated technology when you purchased it. It may have been NEW but it wasn't high end. It was tech that has been growing old for two years before you bought it.

Might be time to get a new computer, OTOH if basic office work is all you do on it then a hard drive upgrade and maybe more memory will do you fine.

Thank you nline. I so appreciate the words of wisdom. I should bring you some cookies! Do you guys like chocolate chip or sugar cookies better?

The one time I've been in your shop, everyone in there was nice and helpful. Kinda weird, but nice and helpful nonetheless.
