Google Indexing

Good morning all. I'm a Media Coordinator for a credit card processing company. We do an extensive marketing program for the merchants who sign up to use our processing machines, and my job is to make commercials for them, which end up being video files of course. Here's the thing: I also upload them to YouTube (mainly. I also upload to others if I have time, but I'm only one guy) to increase the exposure of the client. The boss man wants these videos to show up better on a generic google search... how do we make that happen? I think they may be trying to stretch these things a little far... but that's just me...

Google searches work on "hits"

the more people search for a certain phrase or word google will suggest the search for you.

for instance if you go to Google.com right and type in "a" google will suggest amazon. Because it is the most searched it will suggest it for you first, not necessarily alphabetically.
Try putting in keywords in your description you know people might search for including the service you offer the town you are in the name of your competitors etc. if you get enough traffic, the video will pop up in a related search under videos.

this is a long process you better let your boss know and understand no one man can control the internet

Yeah that's what I've been using for tags for these videos. The worst thing is that my boss is one of those "I wanna see it now!" kinda guys. He's not a dick, but he's kinda like a spoiled kid when it comes to things he wants ya know? He's hella cool but he has no grasp of the practical application of his ideas. haha.

sounds like he's not technologically aware either.
If you can show him the Youtube traffic that may be something he'd get giddy about. you know the little charts that pop up when you want to check your statistics

Yeah, I've done that... the thing is: most of our merchants up to now have been auto care, and people don't go on to Youtube to find an auto repair shop, they go to google... which is where the practical application of uploading to Youtube kinda fails... so we have videos that have been up for a month and a half that have gotten 6 views, hahaha.

put your videos on your webpage
you can have a media tab and have them there for people to watch if they are interested

Well, we do that too, a production company type of thing makes them up for us after I've put everything together, and they host the commercials on their website. We in turn, apply a masking tool to it so it shows up as our website/merchant name. It's a whole complicated ordeal that he didn't think all the way through. And he is hiring his brother to come in and handle all the social networking aspects of things. LIke Youtube and Metacafe and Viddler and whatnot. Which is great, because it takes it off my plate. haha.

If the videos arent Youtube hosted your boss isnt going to see Google traffic. kind of a catch 22

well other than Facebook I'm out of simple ideas to get you more traffic. The internet is great but a mechanic will still get most their customers from TV, radio and penny saver ads. The american people still like the simplicity of clipping coupons

glazgoR@ 04-14-2010 08:10 PM

Exactly! But the application for our retail clients is much better. People will search for stuff like that everywhere. You want a cool little shop that sells weird shit, you might stumble on something on youtube, but you would have to be looking hard to find an auto shop on Youtube. I think producing it is good, and hosting it is good, but youtube doesn't make much sense. We give the merchant a broadcastable copy to use, so they can put it on TV. That seems sufficient enough to me. And they're available for viewing on our website if cardholders want to find them. I think he's overthinking too much...

texbrease 04-14-2010 08:13 PM

yeah I think so too.
hope its not your ass on the line!

MAKEMONEY 04-14-2010 08:20 PM

No it's not. I'll still be doing the commercials either way. I'm too good at getting my shit done for him to let me go if his weed-induced scheme doesn't come together. But he does take advice on occasion so sometimes I get some input into the situation, if I have my ducks in a row and something to show him as an example.

There is plenty of info on the web about Google SEO, as for the YouTube videos you should have plenty of words in both the description and tags, but backlinking really helps here. Try viewing similar videos and posting yours as a video response and promote the videos through social networking site and groups.
