My brother has bought a used older model computer and needs a printer. I think it has windows XP on it. I would like to know if someone has information on what kind of printer I can get for him that is inexpensive and that the cartridges are also inexpensive.
Any information you can share I would appreciate. |

I think the price for the printers is just over $100 and the ink costs are around $10 for black and $15 for color. It's been a while since I've been there but I think those were the prices. One of the big selling points for me with those was that they come as an all-in-one. Print, scan, copy. With appropriate software, they can even fax but that is sold seperately. Just my .02 |

The problem with many low end printers is that they sell the printer at a loss and make it up the cost of the ink. Sorta like cell phones. Free phone in exchange for 2 years of service.
To really save money you need to get a laser printer. When you buy printer look at the cost per page of the unit. That gets into the real costs of one. I would avoid most inkjets as they can really use up expensive ink. If you must get an inkjet and only need basic color then I would look at Hp OFFICEJET series. The ones that have the big separate black, cyan, yellow, a red carts. The HP printers that have just a single color cart are rip offs as you will run out of one color and ruin the cart even though the two other colors are not yet empty. |

Get a Kodak printer from Walmart. They are very reliable and the ink costs are not nearly as expensive as the others, HP, Cannon, etc... My inlaws did the same thing and they had a newer and next step up printer that I had. |
