So, anybody have an estimation on when DVD will be obsolete? I know I'll eventually need a Blu-Ray player, but I'm not looking forward to having to re-purchase the 118 movies I have on DVD, or pay $300 for a player(My fucking Xbox 360 cost the same amount as a Blu-Ray player).

i believe you can play DVD's on a blu- ray player.

or get a PS3 and you get a blu Ray/Video Game system and play DVDs on it.

I still have lots of VHS movies from the past, so I hope they don't stop making the players anytime soon. If so, I'll just have to "acquire" the movies.:

I've actually heard from a few people that Blu-Ray is more likely to bite the dust before DVD. And yes, your Blu-Ray player can play standard DVDs, allegidly at better quality too.

I've got about 1000 films on VHS, guess I'll gradually replace them with DVDs.

I was going to burn all mine onto CD/DVDs, but their days are numbered, too. How long is a digital recording on a flash drive supposed to last?

I meant shelf life, not the time length of the video. LOL
