Default I lost my Office CD Case
I have a CD of Microsoft Office 2003. I cannot find my case with my product key on it anywhere and need to install (and use) it. Am I out of luck? Is it maybe hidden on the disk somewhere? I promise this is a legitimate version of Office.

I think I actually called Microsoft once and they gave it to me. It was registered.

Is this installed already on another machine. If so you can retrieve the code from it using a program called Belarc Advisor.

Sometimes they help some times they don't. Can't hurt to try.

It's not installed on any of the machines that we have currently. I used to have it on my desk tops but I've gotten rid of them and now have laptops.

I just found my case. Woohooo! Now hopefully I won't have any issues installing Office 2003 on my Windows 7 laptop.

There are some versions that allow up to three computers.

Not for business use. That is the home and student version.

I'm not your mother I don't care but I've had clients get sued by Microsoft. Most of the time Microsoft doesn't care about individuals or businesses, unless you are a computer tech like me. I have contact with too many computer users. If I'm a pirate they will sue me, and then go after the clients I pirated to. But every once in a while they find out about an end user and move to make an example of them.

When I was in Lubbock several years ago the company I worked for sold large numbers of computers to a trade/vocational/business school. They gave computers to each student for them to keep. They would buy the hardware from us and have there computer classes setup the system installing Windows 95 on each one. They never purchased a copies of Windows 95 or Office from us just the hardware. Microsoft didn't look to kindly to that. Had the owner arrested for copyright violations. Sued the school for $3 million dollars. They settled for less. The owner had to wear an ankle bracelet for a couple of years. He was running for city councilman which is probably how Microsoft heard about this and why they sued him.

Once upon a time, companies could buy the current Windows operating system and Office packages (and other software) with unlimited license(s) so you could install them on as many company computers as you wanted. The unlimited license was extremely expensive, but it you were a large company you would hit the break even point on less than 100 computers. It's been awhile since I was in that end of the business and don't know if they still offer the unlimited license option anymore.

Not unlimited but there are several scale levels for Volume License Options. Even for small Businesses you can get some relief at the 15-20 computer level. Plus you can get Software Assurance which lets you upgrade should a new version come out in the next 3 years. SA has been a rip off and M$ had to extend deals because they took so long to upgrade XP.
