Default Laptop that's been abused
My Son took his laptop to Afghanistan. He thinks the hard drive might be going and it turns itself off.

Do ya'll think blowing it out might do any good or just buy a new one?

Well with all the sand over there it is possible its hosed. You can try cleaning it out, I would clean it all out good anyway. But you may have to replace it.

Maybe Nline will get on here and help out..........

Depends on why it is turning off. If it is overheating then it may be full of dirt. Without disassembling it blowing out dirt takes some risk of driving dirt deeper into the unit. Some laptops have removable panels that expose the fans to allow for cleaning. If they don't then you need to try and blow the vents in a way that will allow dirt to be blown out of the unit.

Or it could have a failing power supply or a bad motherboard.

Laptops are cheap. I wouldn't spend too much on it.

Since he's in Afghanistan, do you mean "blowing it up?"
