Default Got my new laptop!
So we took the Dell back to best buy and explained to them the problems we were having with it within the first week of owning it. We didn't have the receipt because it had been washed (oops), but figured that shouldn't be a problem since best buy keeps all credit card purchases on record. Well they had trouble finding record of our purchase and this Geek Squad old man (who was probably bitter that he worked for Geek Squad at the ripe old age of 60-ish) kept telling my husband to "calm down". He wasn't even upset, not in the least bit. It was kind of funny actually. They all changed their tune really quick when the MOD came and found our purchase record. Anyway...so I got a new HP laptop. I was going around checking the max screen resolution on all of the laptops and this one had a really nice big 17 inch screen, 1440x900 res. It has an AMD Turion x2 processor, but since I don't play games or do anything really intensive that should be just fine. It was only $699, so I hope it doesn't end up being another piece of crap. If so I will just return it again. It's just really, really pretty and has lots of bells and whistles for such a cheap machine!

HP FTW!!!

Glad its sorted for you. I can't believe they keep and can recall your receipt, if I lost my receipt for anything thats it, nothing can be done.

Is it Windows Vista?

I don't mind big and heavy because I don't tote it around everywhere with me...my laptop is used to be carried from room to room in my house I just hate sitting at a desk, I'd rather meet my computing needs on the couch or snuggled up in bed and this is perfect for that. Since it's my primary system I like to have a big display. The only compromise was not going for a dual core processor. My mac has a core 2 duo, but the most use I get out of a processor is having 6 or 7 tabs open on my browser :-p I think the Turion should do what I need. If I start gaming again I will just use my macbook as a desktop plugged in to the router, since the wireless went out on it.

When I called about the hinges on my laptop breaking they did not want to cover it as it was out of warranty. I explained to them that there clearly was a major problem they had based on complaints I had seen on the internet at numerous sites. I said it all appeared to be due to excessive heat. I had done my homework before calling. But so had she. She asked if I ever used it with it sitting in my lap. I said sure but I always made sure I had it situated so it would not cover up the fan inlet and the vent. Her response was they are not to be used with them in your laps and that was why they were no longer called Laptops but Notebooks

Minus a couple screen problems, my HP has been good to me. The first time I got light spots on the screen, but I was carrying it around with a bunch of books, so probably my fault. They fixed it, in about a week too. The second time the right side of my screen was really dark, no clue what that was, probably backlight. But again, they fixed it, free of charge, and this time in less than a week. If you ever have problems, contact HP's chat support before you go bullshitting around with Geek Squad.
