QuickTime What the Heck???
For some reason my Quicktime player has stopped performing. Every site that uses it just shows the Q with a big question mark through it.
I haven't changed anything... I have deleted it and downloaded again.. I don't care if I sound like an idiot... I just want someone to tell me how to fix it! Please? |
What version do you currently have?
|
Its the latest one 7.3 or 7.13
I can't quite remember... Thanks for responding |
Stuck this often is because Quicktime is mistakenly trying to play content that is NOT in it's file format. QT is probably trying to play a flash file.
Can you give me a link to the site you are trying to view? Also what browser are you using, IE 6 or Firefox, IE7? and what version of Windows? |
When I tried to download the last version of QT it was going to make me download the iTunes software to get it, so I bailed and have been stuck with MediaPlayer. I still have the plug-in, but it works spotty at best. Is Apple still making you download iTunes to get QuickTime? I think that sucks. I have no interest in iTunes, and don't want to screw with just to get QuickTime.
|
I use media player classic with the quick time alternative codec. Same engine running the media without the player crap. You can get Real alternative too for real player files.

It is any page that uses the player....
My Flashplayer works fine whenever it is needed. I have a lot of online coursework and they all use different formats. What bugs me is that I didn't change anything.. that I am aware of. |
I can't help you if you can't give me a link.
The problem is that I think you going to pages that DON'T use QT but are supposed to use a different player. For some reason I think the wrong player is being called up. So you are trying to fix Quicktime when you need to be fixing your broken browser. I can't help you till I know WHAT player is the correct player for that page. Also what Browser are you using. IE6, IE7, or Firefox? And What version of Windows? |
I think you are absolutely right... I don't know how to fix a settings issue.
Let me think of one.... hang on.. OK.. for example if I go to the MWT site and click on entertainment and then on ap entertainment and then on celebrities. there are always little video clips and I just have the BIG Q with a question mark on it... |
Do you have a direct link.
I can't find any movies on any of those pages but there are flash ads which might be the source of the problem. http://www.mywesttexas.com/site/news...d=543181&rfi=6 Does that link screw up for you. Also what happens if you try this in IE? |
Actually the front page of the MRT website. On the right where it says newsvision/ap/webcast
Why isn't my Flashplayer picking those up? |
|
Yep that page is all Flash items. Like I thought for some reason Quicktime is loading instead of flash as it should be.
Quicktime plugin takes over Flash If you see a Quicktime symbol with a question mark where the Flash content should be, it means that Quicktime has taken over handling of Flash files. Open the Quicktime Control Panel, select the Browser tab (or select "Browser Plug-in" from the drop-down menu in Quicktime 6 or earlier). Click the "Mime settings" button and uncheck "Flash media" or "Flash file" under "Miscellaneous" and restart your browser. If the problem persists, remove the file "pluginreg.dat" from the "Firefox" or "Mozilla" folder in the profile folder location. Additionally, remove any "npqt*.dll" files found in the Mozilla Suite or Firefox installation directory's plugins folder. The first part of that is easy, just find the quicktime applet in your control panel(you may have to use CLASSIC VIEW in order to see that applet). The next part requires you to know where your profile is. We will tackle that as needed. |
Awesome, I know how to get to that area... I have looked at it, but was afraid to check or uncheck anything because I wasn't sure what "Mime" was.
Thanks so much! |
Did that fix it?
|
The Flash wasn't checked.....
I will look at some of the other stuff... |
Ah nuts. I'm off to bed. If you need more help let me know. I walk you through the locations of those files. If you don't already know.
|
I am going to work on it today (in between homework assignments of coursehttp://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...n_confused.gif ) I will let you know how it turns out.
