Default Why are Afram rappers interested in our gangster/drug lord stereotyped image?
Why? I've heard so many rap songs and "thug" Aframs make references in comparing themselves to Colombians. And this is one of the latest songs from a Carol City Afram rapper, he called it Bogota.

They big up those Colombians I hate, and is because of those Colombians that my family is hurting on the Pacific coast.

Because it's hard to avoid...At least in the Caribbean/Central America. Can't speak for Aframs.

Why do Afram "thugs" and rappers think it's cool though? It ain't cool! They don't know what a real drug lord is. They've never dealt with mass murder and kidnappings if you don't cooperate with armed groups.

Well, it is because America is addicted to drugs, and they know who the true drugs kings are, and apparently they are sitting in the halls of Washington DC. They are the true drug lords, the ones in Columbia and elsewhere are basically small fish in a sophisticated pond.

During his tenure in the CIA, and even as President he helped establish what is going on today, hence the true drug lord! Remember Noriega. There are tons of information out there about first Bush involvement in the drug trade, which is a almost a establish fact. Therefore, remember corruption is definitely a two way street!

excerpt from wikipedia

"Numerous sources indicate the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has been involved in several drug trafficking operations. The claims go that the CIA worked with groups which it knew were involved in drug trafficking, so that these groups would provide them with useful intelligence and material support, in exchange for allowing their criminal activities to continue,[1] and impeding or preventing their arrest, indictment, and imprisonment by U.S. law enforcement agencies"

I'm stereotyping here: Drugs sex and money is what they fancy.

Its just the record industry, and it is by no means an Afram thing, all rappers sometimes refer to themselves as Colombians and Italians or something they think is gangsta but don't think for one second that rappers don't get taken to task for it, Nas got criticized heavily from switching to "Nas Escobar" from Nasty Nas for example.

Very true! I work with someone who was in the special services who told me the horrible shit that the military had them do down there to those people. One story he told me that he and his brigade had to basically ransack an entire village looking for an old lady who saw something that she wasn't supposed to see. Of course they were told that they were looking for something else.

Yeah but it's weird Black people idolizing Pablo Escobar and people like that. Black people in Colombia don't do that! We have our own Black heros there like Benkos Biojo.

I hope to God they did not kill her and she was able to escape or hide somewhere but unfortunately she was probably killed, to make as an example for others not to talk or look the other way!

I also know a few low key people within the federal government they basically told me the same things as your friend said.

drugs=money=power=respect. everyone wants to be the next scarface.. in the criminal underworld, as anywhere else..who ever has the most influence or power is usually the most respected. the same is true in the ghetto in many cases. atleast within gang culture. whoever has the most money or is moving the most weight is the most respected. colombians are seen as the top dogs, because they have all the drugs. thats why people like pablo escobar are so respected and why everyone wants to imitate them. rick ross got his name from rick "freeway" ross who was an actual gangster who moved hella packs. rick ross the rapper never did that shit, dude was a CO (prison guard) before he started rapping. Mr. capone or capone-e is another example. or noreaga or scarface or nas escobar or the bricksquad etc.

it sells.

outlaw-gangster has been a popular archetype in american culture since at least the 1930s, from cowboys to italian mobsters to gangsta rappers...it appeals to american values, to romanticize a character who goes where he wants, does what he wants, and takes no shit from anyone.
