Default osts equalizer a minute before halftime when he used one to
CHICAGO -- Justin Masterson was able to rely on his defence in his major league-leading third shutout of the season. Bradley Roby Jersey . The Cleveland Indians turned four double plays for their first four-game sweep in Chicago since 1948, beating the Chicago White Sox 4-0 Sunday. Masterson (10-6) gave up six hits, struck out eight and walked one. He blanked the White Sox for the second time this year. "Weve had such great defence, (you) try and let them hit it," he said. "They were aggressive, took a real aggressive approach swinging early. ... We made a lot of double plays and they were pretty double plays." Masterson faced the minimum through six innings thanks to two double plays and a pickoff. "Once he got through the first inning, then he kicked it in gear and started getting the velocity back up and using all his pitches," Indians manager Terry Francona said. "He was terrific." After Masterson began the ninth with two strikeouts, he allowed a single to Alejandro De Aza and hit Alexei Ramirez with a pitch. Masterson struck out Alex Rios looking to end the game. "I felt like at the point where we were at, no matter how good I felt, Rios was probably my last hitter, so I better get him out," said Masterson, who threw 112 pitches. The win moved Cleveland into a virtual tie with Detroit atop the AL Central. "When we can win a game like that today, where we rest a couple guys, try to stay away from guys in the bullpen, thats a good team win," Francona said. Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis and first baseman Nick Swisher had the day off. The White Sox have lost 23 of 31 and fallen a season-high 15 games under .500. Yan Gomes got three hits as the Indians won for the 10th time in 13 games. Chris Sale (5-7) struck out 10 while allowing three runs in eight innings. He recorded double-digit strikeouts for the fourth time this season. Sale was perfect through the first three innings before Drew Stubbs led off the fourth with a bunt single. Sale went 0-5 with a 3.19 ERA in June -- the White Sox scored a total of nine runs during his six starts in the month. Sale hasnt won since May 17 against the Los Angeles Angels. The Indians scored twice in the fourth. Ryan Raburn hit a two-out double that drove in Stubbs, and Carlos Santana added an RBI single. "When you face Sale, you got to figure youre not going to get a whole lot of runs," Francona said. "His stuff is so filthy. (Stubbs) laying down that bunt was so big, made him pitch out of the stretch, and Rayburn hits a double. We did a really good job getting what we got." The Indians added a run in the fifth. Michael Brantley led off with a single and later scored on Lonnie Chisenhalls groundout. Stubbs hit an RBI double in the ninth. The White Sox put two on in the seventh before Rios hit into a double play and Adam Dunn struck out. "If hes throwing what hes capable of like today, hes tough on lefties and righties," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "You would think where he delivers from it would be easier for lefties. But when you can move it around and have a slider like that, a slider and a sinker, it doesnt make it easy on either side." NOTES: The Indians placed OF Michael Bourn on the three-day paternity list and recalled LHP Nick Hagadone. Bourn, who went to Houston after Saturdays game to be with his wife, will be eligible to return to the roster Wednesday. Bourn is hitting .299 as the Indians primary leadoff hitter. Hagadone is 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA. ... White Sox GM Rick Hahn said he hopes the team gets on a roll. If not, changes could occur as the July 31 trade deadline approaches. Hahn said his staff has been receiving "a pretty healthy pace" of calls from other teams over the last few weeks. He indicated no player is untouchable for a possible deal ... 1B Paul Konerko remained out of the White Sox lineup with a sore back for the sixth straight game. He said he hopes to play on Tuesday. The team has Monday off. ... Ramirez will eventually get a day off, Ventura said. The shortstop is the only player in the majors to play every inning this year. He has committed an AL-leading 14 errors. Devontae Booker Jersey . Trailing 2-1 from the first leg, Fiorentina levelled on aggregate in the 14th minute when Joaquin Sanchez Rodriguez headed back a long ball from David Pizarro and Pasqual smashed home an angled volley. Brandon McManus Jersey . Rosbergs time of 1 minute, 33.185 seconds at the Bahrain International Circuit was a quarter of a second faster than Hamilton, who had to abandon his final flying lap after running wide at the first corner. 403 Forbidden . They actually finished with a better record in 07 than they did in 06 but only marginally, going from 61 victories to 66.BARCELONA, Spain -- Getafe fought back for a sorely needed 3-1 victory at Valencia on Sunday, breaking a 15-round winless streak and escaping from the Spanish leagues relegation zone. Getafes first away win since Oct. 31 and first under new coach Cosmin Contra lifted the struggling Madrid-based side one point clear of the drop. Forwards Angel Lafita, Ciprian Marica and Pedro Leon scored for Getafe after Eduardo Vargas opened at Mestalla Stadium. Tempers flared in the final moments after Leon apparently provoked the crowd following his goal. Valencia defender Jeremy Mathieu was sent off for slapping Leon before Contra was also banished from the dugout. Valencia joined a group of teams fighting for an upper-table finish and a European berth who all dropped points this round. Real Sociedad was held to a 1-1 draw at Osasuna and Villarreal drew 1-1 at home with Elche, so none were able to fully capitalize of the losses by Athletic Bilbao, Sevilla, and Espanyol on Saturday. That left Bilbao in fourth place and in control of the last Champions League spot. Sevilla and Real Sociedad are six points behind in fifth and sixth places, while Villarreal is a further point back in seventh. Valencia had the goal of returning to the Champions League next season, but with this stinging loss it looks set to not even make the Europa League as it sits nine points adrift of Villarreal and in ninth place. "The reality is that right now we are not better than" Getafe, said Valencia coach Juan Pizzi. Valencia appeared to be in control after Vargas headed in Dani Parejos well-placed corner kick six minutes into the match. But Lafita unleashed a blistering low strike between two defenders that went in off the post in the 25th, and two minutes later Ciprian Marica dived to head in a pass, beating Valencias offside trap on a set piece. Getafe goalkeeper Jordi Codina palmed Philippe Senderos header over in the 64th and was fortunatte Paco Alcacers shot rattled the woodwork a minute later before Leon sealed the win in the 88th. Demarcus Walker Jersey. "This is very important because the team was in a very delicate situation," Contra said. "This gives us a little bit of breathing room. I believe with this attitude and character we can turn this around." Sociedad also started well in Pamplona, with forward Gonzalo Castro hitting in the seventh from Carlos Velas unselfish pass following a defensive lapse from Osasuna. But Osasuna settled down and began to threaten from corners and free kicks, while Sociedad defender Inigo Martinez almost scored in the 49th from the centre line with a long lob that hit the crossbar. Osasuna striker Oriol Riera finally converted on his fourth shot attempt from a set piece when he headed in Roberto Torres cross in the 59th, and Sociedad needed goalkeeper Claudio Bravo to protect the point after Osasuna pressed them into their area in stoppage time. Villarreals quest to catch Bilbao was likewise frustrated in a dull match against Elche. After American sprinter Justin Gatlin took the honorary kickoff at El Madrigal Stadium, Elche went ahead in the 31st when Damian Suarez converted a penalty following Jeremy Perbets foul on Alberto Botia. Forward Jonathan Pereira scored the hosts equalizer a minute before halftime when he used one touch to turn in a high ball that fell to him in the box in one of few scoring chances. Valladolid beat 10-man Almeria 1-0 at home in a match between two teams fighting to avoid relegation. Valladolid striker Manucho scored what proved to be the winner in the sixth. Almeria defender Marco Torsiglieri was dismissed in the 75th with his second yellow card for fouling Manucho. Almeria was left in the drop zone along with Osasuna and Real Betis. Atletico Madrid leads the league by one point over Barcelona and three points ahead of Real Madrid with seven games to play.
