Interesting that the Afars dress almost exactly identical to Somalis and stress that without Camels they would never survive. Camels is the edge that we have had against other African tribes, because of it we can easily live and flourish in places that they cannot
Afars are easily distinguishable from the shorter more robust highlanders that have come for opportunities to work in the salt mines Any thoughts? |

Camels are important to survival because climate is so harsh in Djibouti/Somalia. The Horn has more camels than any other region in the world. 6 million camels in Somalia alone. The only country that comes close is Sudan with 3 million. Camel milk is closest you can get to human milk.
Their cafes make camel milk lattes because it is more plentiful then cows milk. |
