I've got a lot of things I could be doing right now but none are more important than writing down my opinions and posting them on the internet for dozens of people to read, disagree with, and violently criticize. Without further ado, here are your July Power Rankings for the NFL 2010 Season.
32. St. Louis Rams: Sure, the Rams got their QB of the future but unfortunately he won't make much of a difference during the 2010 season. The Rams are still pretty awful on both sides of the ball. And as much as I love A.J. Feeley, he's not going to win many games for this team to start the season. 31. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Honestly, I like Josh Freeman and I want the guy to succeed but his team is terrible. And it starts with the coaching staff -- Raheem Morris probably never should have gotten a head coaching job to begin with. Next season should be his last. 30. Buffalo Bills: Another case of the "Why the heck is this guy a head coach?" Chan Gailey, the man who ushered in the end of the Cowboys dynasty, has somehow managed to get himself another head coaching job in the NFL. Un-frickin-believable. 29. Detroit Lions: I hate to put the Lions this low because I think Matt Stafford is going to have a heck of a year this year -- but I'm still not sold on this team's ability to stop anyone on defense. Maybe I'm wrong, but probably not. 28. Cleveland Browns: At some point last season, the Browns realized that Jamal Lewis is old and washed up. If the Browns can get the ball in the hands of guys like Josh Cribbs and Jerome Harrison, they've got a shot. 27. Seattle Seahawks: The trendy position seems to be that the Seahawks are going to experience a bit of a resurgence this year with Pete Carroll taking over the helms. But why? The guy failed at his first attempt in the NFL and proved he could only win in college by circumventing the rules. The only way this team does well is if the NFC West is extremely weak this year (which is a good possibility.) 26. Pittsburgh Steelers: This season is lost before it even begins. It's a shame Big Ben is a complete moron and potential rapist because he's a pretty good quarterback. Don't expect much out of this team in 2010. 25. Denver Broncos: It's amazing how some teams have a way of making you scratch your head and think: "Is Josh McDaniels on some sort of mind altering drug?" The Broncos have consistently fallen flat on their face in the draft the past two years and unfortunately it's going to catch up with them sooner rather than later. 24. Oakland Raiders: Addition by subtraction here. The Raiders got rid of a 300 pound albatross that's been unable to live up to his hype as first overall pick from a few years back. Jason Campbell may not be the the next Johnny Unitas but he's at least competent -- something I can't say for Jamarcus Russell. 23. Kansas City Chiefs: Speaking of mind altering drugs, you're probably wondering how I could possibly rank the Chiefs as the 2nd best team in the AFC West. It's simple really. Most of the teams in the AFC West suck and the Chiefs have found their own personal savior in Jamaal "Jesus Christ Superstar" Charles. 22. Carolina Panthers: Jonathan Stewart and Deangelo Williams are both beasts, but the Panthers no longer have two things that made them successful in the past -- a strong defense and good quarterback play. 21. Arizona Cardinals: Without Kurt Warner, look for this team to go right back into the crapper. 20. Miami Dolphins: I sort of forgot about this team when I was creating these rankings. I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing. 19. Philadelphia Eagles: Long-forgotten are the old days of "In Andy We Trust" as the Eagles enter into a new era with quarterback Kevin Kolb. Much has been made about the loss of Donovan McNabb, but the real question is whether the Eagles defense can return to form and whether it can overcome the loss of emotional leader Sheldon Brown. 18. Jacksonville Jaguars: Probably one of the most erratic and unpredictable teams in the league, the Jaguars can look great one game and completely horrible the next. Being in one of the toughest divisions in football doesn't help this team out very much. 17. Atlanta Falcons: Stick a fork in him because Michael Turner is done. That's great for the NFC South but it sucks for Matt Ryan. If Turner fails miserably this year as I predict, the Falcons will need to find somebody to replace him and that won't be an easy task. 16. New York Giants: The Giants desperately need to get something figured out with their defense. Since Spagnuolo left for the Rams, it just hasn't been the same. On the other side of the ball, the Giants should be pretty set, though. Eli might not be in the same league as his brother, but Smith, Nicks, and Manningham are all pretty good guys to be throwing the ball to. 15. Houston Texans: The Texans always seem to be on the outside looking in. The offense is explosive but week in and week out this team finds ways to lose football games that it should win. Until it can muster up the mojo to get that killer instinct, this team isn't a serious contender. 14. San Diego Chargers: Contract issues aside, this team is just mundane. Sure, they can put up a lot of points on the scoreboard but the Chargers just can't get it done against good teams. It's all fine and dandy if they want to beat up on the Raiders, Chiefs, and Broncos every season, but these guys are perennial losers come playoff time and don't expect that to change any time soon. 13. Cincinnati Bengals: Does anyone think the Bengals were for real last year? They've got attitude and charisma -- and I like that. At the same time, can they really pull off what they did last year? I'm going to guess they can't. 12. Chicago Bears: Call it a hunch but I expect a lot out of the Bears this season. Unfortunately for them, the Packers and Vikings are both pretty damn good teams. On the bright side, Cutler can't play any worse than he did last year. 11. New York Jets: The Jets defense will keep the team in games but I don't have much faith in Mark Sanchez. 10. Washington Redskins: Donovan McNabb cures all ills. Redskins might just win the NFC East because of him. 9. San Francisco 49ers: I have to admit, I doubted Mike Singletary when he dropped his pants in the locker room and exposes his genitalia to the entire team. I questioned him when he sent Vernon Davis to the showers early. But Mike Singletary has proven me wrong. He is a grown ass man. And holy crap, is Alex Smith actually starting to play well? 8. New England Patriots: I'm just going to put this out there. I hate the Patriots, but the AFC East looks ripe for the picking for them this year. My biggest concern is whether their defense has what it takes anymore. Has Belichick lost his touch or is it just that he's not as good without videotapes of his opponent? 7. Tennessee Titans: At the end of the year last year, there is no team that anyone feared more than the Tennessee Titans. This team could be unstoppable in 2010 with Chris Johnson and Vince Young together again on offense. 6. Dallas Cowboys: The Cowboys offensive line might experience some issues this year but that seems like the only weakness on what is a very solid football team. The defense should be just as good, or possibly better, this year and the Cowboys have added a nice weapon in Dez Bryant to their already impressive artillery. 5. Green Bay Packers: Ron Gant went out and proved me wrong again. He had a good year last year and there's no reason to think he can't do it again. A tough defense and a balanced offensive attack make the Packers a legitimate contender this year. 4. Baltimore Ravens: Maybe the Ravens are too high. Maybe Ray Rice isn't as good as I think he is. Maybe Joe Flacco comes back down to Earth this year. Maybe Anquan Boldin continues to miss large amounts of playing time because of injuries. Maybe Ray Lewis really did witness a murder. Maybe none of this matters, though. The Ravens should win their division with relative ease this year. 3. Indianapolis Colts: The Colts have Peyton Manning and that alone makes them one of the best teams in the league. Add in a guy like Dwight Freeney and this team will be back on top of the AFC once again. 2. New Orleans Saints: Drew Brees has now surpassed Tom Brady in the "best QB in the league" discussion. It's still unclear, though, whether Reggie Bush or Vince Young is the bigger bust. I still can't believe the idiot Texans took Mario Williams. 1. Minnesota Vikings: The Vikings just might have the best defense in the league. It's a shame their two stars on offense can't protect the football. But you figure, even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while. Vikings finally put it all together this year. |

A tough defense and a balanced offensive attack make the Packers a legitimate contender this year. Obviously, there is a joke being made here that is beyond me. A clarification as to just what it is would be . . . illuminating. |

Sadly, I think Philadelphia is ranked too high. I haven't digested most of this though. |

For a team that is going to go 8-8 or 9-7? I don't think so. Losing Thomas Jones hurts that team big time. Speaking of which, Thomas Jones and Jamaal Charles in a RB tandem for the Chiefs is going to be pretty nice for them. Add a SB winning WR on offense coming off a 1200 yard season and a year of maturity for Sanchez and Green and watch out. So you've got Edawards and Holmes are your WR with one of the best o-lines in the league. Plus the best defense in the league. No way this team isn't top 5. In fact, if Sanchez takes even a little step forward this year. I'd put them as my AFC pre season champs (then or B-more) |

Taylor while old is an upgrade as a rotational DE. Cromartie and Wilson give them the best 1, 2, 3 CB trio in the league. They will be press coverage NIGHTMARES. And then you have their sack/blitz specialist coming off with an extra second or two with the press coverage..Sick. Then you get kris jenkins back?? Best D in the league...easily. |

Since when can Cromartie play press D? I think the team you saw at the end of the year that went to the AFC championship is closer to the team you will see this year. And they added 2 corners and Jason Taylor and Santanio Holmes. They lost a decent safety so its a big net gain in the end. Do you think they are not a top 10 team? |
