I was thinking about the NHL lockout yesterday and how the owners are holding out for a salary cap. If they did get a hard cap in place like the NFL has, I was wondering how teams would get down to get get under the cap number they would impose. I can't remember how the NFL did this when they brought the cap in around the early 90's. This is kinda hard to explain so I'm not certain if I've made it very clear, but I'm looking for an explanation of how teams and the league dealt with the change to a salary cap.
