Default Who Pays?
Hi,

Wondering if anyone knows the logistics of hotels in Bangkok such that if a wardrobe accidentally got part of its wooden door damaged i.e. smashed in, and the damage was not discovered / owned up during check-out, who usually pays for the damage? The hotel or the cleaner on duty?

Sorry if this question sounds pretty lame...

It may depend on what type of hotel it is, international 5 star or 2 star dump.

Hard to imagine that they didn't discover a kicked in door when they did a sweep of the room while distracting you at checkout.

Actually that happened when I was 19 (I know youth is never an excuse for such cowardice and irresponsibility), and I have clean forgotten about it most of the time. But of late, it suddenly resurfaced in my memory and shocked me with a jot. I emailed Anoma a few months ago about it but it never got back to me (thinking this must be a prank email I guess)..

Guess what? It's the courage you have embrace to admit one's mistakes..everyone makes mistakes and what important is to accept and face calmly upon it.

=D As one of the sayings goes..A realized person does not bother about mundane things and has noting that bothers on the mind. Thus even though you have clean forgotten about it most of the time. But of lately, it suddenly resurfaced in your memory. Most people will definitely ignore about this (there's always a thousand reason like people might long forgotten about this or who cares)...finally it's the courage that you have embrace upon the mistakes and not ignoring or running away

I feel it's important is to give ourselves a mirror of the mind and constantly reflect and remind ourselves to improve

What a great relief to hear that it is not the cleaner on duty in that room (although this does not make my fault less of a fault)...

I doubt very much that the cleaner would have to pay for something like that.
You must have paid in cash, otherwise they might have charged your credit card, as that's what they do it you steal a bathrobe or something.

=) We paid in advance to our local tour agent who arranged the free and easy package. Yes, paid cash =) But a few days after we returned (I think), we received a call from Thailand (from what was told to me), which my friend ignored.

I would think the insurance company would pay, unless it was a deliberate act of damage, then the hotels insurance company may take a law suit against you, then hopefully you have good travel insurance. About paying by credit card, well hypothetically, if any company tried to take something from my credit card, for a claim that was unjust, I would have my credit card company block the extra payment.

Well if your travel insurance didn't have unlimited cover for such an event you could be risking every thing you own, I would have a close look at your cover.

I don't know if travel insurance will cover you if you willfully kick a door in.

Will someone willing to steal a bathrobe?
Considering that a bathrobe at somewhere like the Four Seasons can go for somewhere close to 200 dollars, they do get pinched from time to time.

Did they attempt to called you since your friend ignored?
