Bahts in Bata...
This young man was walking down down a Bangkok street at night, as he was passing a small, poorly lit soi, he was confronted by 3 muggers, He put up valiant, heroic fighthttp://www.thailandqa.com/forum/imag...lies/party.gif...but finaly they over powered him, and searched through his pockets...but all they came up with was 20 Bahts, "You fought like that for 20 Bahts?" -asked the leader incredulouslyhttp://www.thailandqa.com/forum/images/smilies/rock.gif..-feeling little relieved that struggle was over-young man said;"Well is that all you WANTED?- I thought you were after 5,000 Bahts I got HIDDEN in my shoe!"http://www.thailandqa.com/forum/imag...s/confused.png. But seriously, when I returned from my first trip to Thailand I had about 30 Bahts as "souvenirs",..from my second trip I brought 700 bahts to use on airport on my next return to Bkk....and from last trip I have now only 100 Baht note & some loose change (hassle going through metal detectors at airportshttp://www.thailandqa.com/forum/images/smilies/mad.png)..What about other travellers to Thailand, does anyone bring any Thai money back home with them?..or exchange it all before leaving Thailand?..I have never even tried to exchange Bahts in Chicago banks, so not sure even if I could exchange them...are Bahts exchangeable in all countries?http://www.thailandqa.com/forum/images/smilies/rock.gif

In rural Buriram no-one accepts foreign currency so having a weekly budget of Bahts helps you to keep to budget because otherwise it is a long trek in to Sateuk city to exchange more. http://www.thailandqa.com/forum/imag...lies/smile.png

I may be one of the few but I always bring Baht home with me, as a regular visitor I just put them to one side and use them on my next trip. I always have a pocketful of loose change and generally end up with 2 or 3 thousand baht in my wallet in various notes. I could change it back but don't see the point. Most exchanges give less for baht back than when changed originally and I would only have to change it again for the next trip. Happy Spending!!!

I see your point John.....but do banks in U.K. exchange Bahts?...I think that in U.S. you can not exchange all the currencies from every country...Not sure about this,...only wondering..http://www.thailandqa.com/forum/images/smilies/rock.gif

Black wednesday happened just before I went to Thailand the first time and virtualy halved my spending money.
However the Asian crash for us was great as we transfered 10,000 pounds into our Thai Bank Account at an exchange rate of 89 baht per Pound.The Account was paying 11% interest at the time. Oh happy days. |
Well I always know some one going to Thailand, I just give them a better exchange rate than what they would get from a bank, or I keep the change for a future trip. From my last trip to Thailand I came back with about 2,500 baht, well one of my mates got married soon after and was going to Thailand for his honeymoon, so I just gave him the baht as a wedding gift.

Sorry I forgot to mention that bit. Yes UK banks will exchange Baht back to sterling. They will not take change though and only change 100, 500 or 1000 baht notes. As I said though the rate is always less than the original.
