Anna's campaign gains momentum across TN
The campaign for Anna and against corruption picked up momentum all over the state on Tuesday as soon as the news of the arrest was flashed. “We will fast till we receive a message from Anna Hazare.
When 75-year-old Anna can go on indefinite fast so that future India is free of corruption, should we not come out in support? After all, we are the real beneficiaries of this Jan Lokpal movement“, said Meril Chakravarthy, a B.Sc., visual communication student in the city who was one of hundreds involved in such protests. Reports of pro-Anna protests and solidarity-fasting poured in from all over the state. Lawyers in Nagercoil deep down south stayed away from work. Not everyone practiced peace in their demonstration, though. For instance, the law college students in Salem burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Anna Hazare has made history in Tamil Nadu. For the first time in recent past, the Tamils have come out in large numbers across the state to demonstrate solidarity with a north Indian campaigner -the Dravidian state usually shuns leaders from the Hindi heartland. The reason was apparent; Anna's movement against corruption deeply touched them as they have been already distressed that a few of the main players in the 2G scam hailed from TN. |
