i actually thought the fencing helmet was made by hasegawa before seeing the rest of the pictures... this posts reminds me of how one of my sensei is constantly ditching over hasegawa "plastic" shinai comparing it to other long, cilindrical... "plastic" objects... lol. as the homepage of hasegawa says: High Safety (i cant imagine what for) High Durability - 30 times higher than bamboo shinai (for tough and daily use) Highly Controlled Weight Balance - Outstanding operationality (improvement balance makes the tsuki safer) Economical - Exchangeable each 4 pieces (economical!!!! and more important than that, 4 PIECES!!!! i wonder whats that for...) it includes tsuba and leather parts (no comments) jojojo |

I own a hasegawa carbon shinai CF style, and I like ir, I have it since a year or maybe a bit more, the only downside I see is that the sound of the hits isnīt the same or any better than the bamboo shinais and the feeling of the hit is also different, it feels nasty in the beggining but then you get used to it.

What's cooler? One Hasegawa carbon fibre shinai or having a bulk purchase of 10 cheapish bamboo shinai in your back room. I'd go for the cheapo's any day. not for making comercials or anything like that but... on e-kendo there are shinais for 15 bucks (including leather parts)... damn! anyway, this was supossed to be funny... i think that i have a different sense of humour... given up making jokes |

hahaa yes, it was kinda funny for me, donīt feel so bad =P, anyway, Iīd go for te hasegawa... shinais here get dried out easily, and require more attention.... maybe for that reason they donīt seem to last on my hands, I īve asked many times if maybe I am hitting too hard or the mengane bur nothing makes sense, I just break them, hopefully a regular shinai, would last about 2 keikos in my hands =( ..so I go for hasegawa.. and keep the bamboo shinais like tresure in my shinai bag for emergency or something, I have like 3 of those, but I actually donīt use them.

ok ... bamboo shinai does break (carbon shinai sometimes breaks too, oops
![]() i agree that taking care of a bamboo shinai can be boring, but to me it is relaxing (IF you have all the tools you need to do it) ive tried carbon shinai for a nice period of time, but ive never got used to it, i prefer bamboo. carbon its just too heavy for me. anyway, ive also breaked a nice amount of shinai, but never hitting men. always hitting do. especially doing kaeshi, or gyaku do. also hiki do can be kind of hard. anyway, i tend to keep my broken bamboo pieces as a memento. |
