I personally love Kata and get a lot out of it but some people don't like it and seem to think of it as a waste of time... Wierd if you ask me...

Aren't they the suppliers for a lot of nine circles stuff?

You don't need anything for your first couple of lessons, after that get your own shinai, then bokuto, then keikogi and hakama.... then after a few months get bogu.
Actually, I think nine circles supplier is www.kendoshop.com

I've heard that "Kendo: The Definitive Guide" by Hiroshi Ozawa is also a must if you are interested in Kendo.

Do you have this book and would you recommend that I purchase it?
Yes - I would recommend you buy it - but Kenshikan also provides you with a beginners book to get you started....

Damn you! I can only guess that you are one who does not sitting in Seiza too long? http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/laugh.gif I should be at training tonight - but my damn feets feel broken! http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...sappointed.gif http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...ilies/hurt.gif

And BTW the shinai are good to start with - it means that you dont have to choose something you dont know about...They are a little heavy for me - but I am a girl - but not a small one - so a 38 is too small - so I went with the mens 39

Suby,

any idea when your dojo is going to have a new introductory course?

The website says the last one start on May 16th. I emailed the dojo 2-3 days ago but haven't heard back from them.

Yeah I keep on hearing that the Course is starting in August. But its August now you say? (Yeah I will have to find out at committee tomorrow) And I know who answers that email address too...

Best bet for you is to roll up to training on Sunday morning (9.30am-11.30am) and one of the Sempai will talk to you about it http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...lies/smile.gif

Just an Update on the next Intro course at the MBK:

http://www.melbournebudokai.com.au/index.php

"Kenshikan

Important announcement:
NEXT KENDO INTRODUCTORY COURSE: 15TH AUGUST 2007

The next Kendo Introductory Course will be starting on Wednesday the 15th of August 2007 and enrolment is done on the night. It will go for seven weeks (2 sessions per week, 2 hours per session).

The course days are Wednesday from 7:00pm to 9:00pm and Sunday from 9:30am to 11:30am. The course fee is $95 for students/children and $135 for adults. People will be expected to have a Shinai (Bamboo Sword) to train with. One can be purchased on the night of enrolment. It costs $50.

People are expected to be suitably dressed - shorts/track suit pants and a t-shirt (no singlets please). Arrive early at the Dojo to fill in the enrolment form and to purchase a shinai (if you don't already have one) so as not to delay the actual training.

Once the Introductory Course has been completed, people that would like to continue training in Kendo can become a club member and join in with the normal training sessions. Details of club membership, the uniform and armour are explained at the end of the Introductory Course.

People are welcome to visit the Dojo during the normal training sessions to discuss any questions that they may have. We look forward to seeing you at the Dojo or the next Kendo Introductory Course. "
