So what do you do when you've taken the time off and still find yourself needing to fill a hole in your heart and soul that kendo doesn't seem to fill anymore? Seems like a bad decision to leave the people you love to see and spend time with, just to make yourself feel better. Some times it's like I'm just going through the motions, especailly when I feel like I"m having a great night and all I get is critisms. To add to that, seems like the more you progress, the less fun there is.
I'll tell you what a wise man once told me.
He said;

"Sometimes it's just time to get off the bus..."

So maybe it's just your time to "get off the bus."

Not me however, I'll be ridin' that sucker 'till it bursts into flame and goes hurtling off a cliff.

When I start to loose motivation I just remember how much I owe to martial arts. It got me through university, brought me to my wife and best friend, took me to Japan and shows me something new everytime I train....oh and if I dare say it infront of my wife she kicks me in the head .

I don't know about you guys but I personally do kendo because it is fun. I get stressed out and want to quit sometimes but that's just normal. If things ever get to the point that kendo is no longer fun, I don't think I would have any problems quitting. God knows my wife wouldn't mind. Back in college, I was going through a bad moment and needed some time to collect my thoughts. I think I did the right thing in taking a break. My personal experience is just that. Each person should decide what is the best course of action for them. Sort of comes with the territory when you want to grow up into an "adult". Lord knows I like to have fun more than the average bear but that's just me. Different people have different characters and act differently...

Kendo is not a competitive pursuit involving hitting each other with shinai to determine a winner and loser.
Kendo is a form of training to develop a correct manners and a healthy mind and body.
Because of this, kendo is pursued with an aim to:

1. Polish ones mind
2. Strengthen ones body through training
3. Learn technique
...
kendo is a tediously repetitive "activity", no one in their right mind likes to get hit in the head. So unles you are learning kendo with the 3 aims above, it's hard to keep on doing kendo for 5, 10, 20 years. We don't have to quinch our thirst with water, we can also drink tea, coffee, soda and so on. Unless you know the reason why you are doing something, it's useless to you in the long run. I agree with kenzan in that maybe sometimes it's time for you to get off the bus, who knows someday, you might just find yourself at the bus stop trying to catch that same bus again. then again, mayb not.
