Probably archival administrative type things were done or even a new server. These things tend not to lead to new features and fancy updates for the end user.

Nope, not really back up. It's just that you're all hallucinating from the severe withdrawal syndrome that you're suffering now. This is all a figment of your imagination.

You guys might have noticed a few bugs in the system lately. I suggested that Alex & Hamish upgrade to the latest vBulletin release, which they have done. Things seem to be working better, or at least I'm not getting those funky messages any more.
