I don't know about you all, but I'm a big fan of audio books.
They make commuting to work or pruning the garden much more enjoyable. In any event, I just finished listening to Stephen Hunter's latest novel, The 47th Samurai. I wondered if any of you have read it, or listened to it, and if so, what did you think of it. The book has quite a bit of Kendo and other JSA arts in it, in fact, it's pretty much all about them, which was surprising, because I had no idea what the book was about when I downloaded it. I was actually looking for a retelling of the 47 Ronin, but misread the title. As for myself, I found it a bit pulpy, campy, and cliche and unrealistic in places; but then again Stephen Hunter's books generally are that way from my understanding. However, the story and the story-telling was quite enjoyable, and I had a good time listening to it. I recommend it, if you are looking for entertainment purposes. The other good news is, if your local library supports web audio downloads as mine does, you can listen to it for free. I'd like to hear what others thought of it. |
