Ai, yah, Fred-san!

I'm glad that nobody was hurt in the conflagration. However, I feel deep sadness for you and your fellow dojo-mates.

Hopefully soon, the spirit of Kendo will move you all to pull together as a family and rebuild from the ashes.

Mark

I guess someone offended the Dojo god eh. Was someone not sincere when bowing to the Kamidana?

On a serious note, just remember that "this too will pass;" this event should reminds all of us the impermanence of our most cherished belongings: dojo, friends, family. They will all leave us one day; so while we are lucky to have them in our company, make an effort to be present, to be there totally for them, and for what we are doing. For that is all we can do, such that we do not waste this existence.

Live, love, and practice well.

Oh, sorry my mistake. Strangely enough I found out shortly after reading this post that my Brother-in-law's caravan, which he uses inbetween coach driving trips, burnt down with all his stuff in.

Is there some kind of new years Pyro-Fairy lighting things up for 2009, there was that night club as well...

Damn, I'd be pretty pissed if any of the dojo I went to burned down. Any idea as to what caused it?

The police on location are still speculating. It wasn't a natural fire. They haven't ruled out a fireworks accident it being New Years Eve...though there were reports of a group of people being near the building just before the fire.

If true then we can speculate that this group was fooling around with fireworks and by accident started a fire. I doubt it was a deliberate work of arson.

Oh, thanks for all the pos-rep guys.

I'm gonna print this thread and show it to my dojo-mates. That'll cheer them up just as it did me.

if it was an arsonist I would be tempted to try the new kit out on him....Don't forget blunt weapons hurt more than sharp ones!

Fred, I know I'm a little late but I'd like to express my heartfelt condolences to you and your fellow kenshi, and to everyone else who trained at the dojo. I couldn't even imagine the sickening feeling everyone must have about the loss of their equipment, and more importantly, their place for learning martial arts. Take care.

See my Flickr gallery for photos:

The pictures in the gallery are really saddening and heart-breaking.
I feel so sorry for such a loss for you guys and for the worldwide kendo/budo community.

Anyways try to look at the half filled glass of water instead of the half empty: no one got hurt and stuff can be rebuilt and replaced.
So, knocked down once, get up stronger than before!

Well the case is solved: The police was phoned by several parents who's children had finally cracked and admitting that they torched the dojo. Apparently they were playing around with either matches or fireworks (both) when the building caught fire. The boys tried to put it out but obviously didn't succeed.
The boys are minors and they aren't exactly serial arsenists so I guess thats that.

Heres the article for those Swedes/Scandinavians among you.

*edit*

And as always: Thanks for all the cheers and chin-ups

Well, I'd feel VERY sympathetic if you guys had infanticide feelings/tendencies now... alas, it's a real shame to lose your dojo like this. I hope you can find a good place to practice soon, and hopefully get all the equipment sorted out too. Maybe from insurance? Can you get any official help from ZNKR or the such?

Well we don't practice ZNKR Seitei Jodo but we do belong to the European Jodo Federation. We might get some sort of support from there but thats not my department. I'll let you guys know how it goes.
