I can't come up with a single funny thing about that article. (I suspect that it probably wasn't posted to be funny).

The guy with the swords was likely off his meds, mentally ill, or both. The guards... now get to live with having shooting and killing someone. No one wins.

Security Guards interviewed at the scene reported that the swordsman's last words were:

"I thought the armed security guards were on the 16th floor, right before the Boss lair.
There..were..only...(Gasp!) supposed..to..be..unarmed Punks at this level...."

Witnesses indicate that the felled intruder then flashed a few times before vanishing altogether.

I beg to differ, methinks the people who the ninja had it in for can go home to his family and give them a hug. he or she wins

Unfortunately Scientology has a habit of convincing the mentally ill to go off their meds, I hope that wasn't the cause of this mans death.

Fair enough - though I assumed that the guys with the guns probably would have been able to stop the ninja before he reached his end goal - without killing him that is. Thus, everyone wins.

Yeah but that would require some kind of gun-skill... or "aim"...

The tradgey of situations like this is sometimes the assailant can't be reasoned with. Sometimes, for whatever reason, they mean only to do harm and can't be dissuaded. In situations like that it falls upon those in charge of insuring the saftey of others to do what they can to protect the well being of themselves and the others in danger. I can't tell by the news column, but if the "ninja" was such an assailant, then I feel the security personel acted in the best way to protect whoever the assailant was after and themselves.

Guns kill. There's no way around that. When you point a gun at someone you are taking their life. The assailant was shot, but no one else was. I would say their "aim" was good enough.

Well you can shoot him in both shoulders. Or in both legs. Anyone with good aim can disable a man without killing him. Just cause someone is clearly deranged doesn't mean he deserves to die.

Although I agree, better this way than if the swords guy had actually hurt anyone. I doubt he expected to be greeted kindly by running towards two armed guys whilst waving around some blades...

What I don't like is the fact that private security guards are in possession of, and using firearms; surely that should be reserved for properly trained and regulated government agencies.

How about 'Tazers' for the private security personnel?

Well a tazer doesn't do much good against a sword, though, unless they'd use tazer guns (those that shoot a cable or something).

@J Mettler, ah, no worries it didn't come across like that at all! I was just wondering about them killing the guy, but now reading your post I understand it's not that easy to shoot and simply disable someone with just a small injury. I mean what do I know? I've only ever held a gun once (in the US) and I've never fired one. When it comes to projectiles I still prefer my slingshot

I don't understand this everybody wins stuff. I own a jewelry store and have carried a pistol for years. I have had an armed robbery and take comfort in the fact that if my robber decided to start shooting, or stabbing, or baseballbatting I could have a chance to survive by killing him. The second to last thing I ever want to do is hurt someone, the last is to have them do harm to me so I can't be there for my family. I want to win so he has to lose if it comes to life or death. life is good, and I hope to cross shinai with my friends for years to come.

I think pepper spray would have done the job. If that didn't take the guy down then shoot him. Center of mass as they say.

You should have fired it. It's actually fairly difficult to reliably hit within a few inches of your target at 25 feet. That's another reason we aim for center mass. Trying to wing somebody is likely to just miss and get yourself killed.

A lot of cops do private security work for extra money, hence still allowed to carry firearms. Some security firms require extra training and certifications before their employees can carry firearms also. Without knowing more personal details, it's possible these guys could very well be members of your "properly trained and regulated government agencies."
