Default 'Samurai' William
Anybody else read this excellent book?

It's a chronicled history of the Dutch and English attempts to open up trade routes with Japan. One sea-farer did particularly well, the eponymous William Adams actually became advisor to the Shogun at the time.

Fascinating read.

God, I still remember getting that book for christmas. Normally when I get a really good book I power through it in about a night (I find it hard to put a book down ). I didn't sleep properly for about four nights . Really good book. I'd quite like to read one of the non fictional accounts.

I liked it very much and I have recommended it here in this Institution.
I was also amused by the description "Dancing Bears" of Ladies of the oldest profession.
