Default Cometti says hands off the WAFL
Good to see him back in the WAFL and say it hasn't been in such good shape since the formation of the Eagles.

There is a much more detailed version in today's West (Fri Mar 18) where Cometti explains with great clarity why there is no need to have a Dockers or Eagles reserves team in the WAFL.

I think we were kidding ourselves if we ever thought a National competition wouldnt happen. The AFL is king nobody is denying that.

But protecting the fabric & tradition of the state league comps is the sticking point. Lose that and see where football in WA is in 20 years time.

Personally I would rather have a competition between the SANFL and WAFL with our 9 clubs and their 9 clubs (18 teams). Backed by superior sponsors with the ABC Broadcasting TV deal in place along with one commercial network. It would be the most powerful comp outside of the AFL and would leave West Coast & Freo to seek another path (VFL).... For once something other than anything Victorian would hold some serious clout. The best players would converge here (and SA) and it would be like a "Champions Cup" format, but on a full-time basis. Together with the WAFL and the SANFL combined as one, it would become a very strong 2nd tier league and the product quite good for football. You would still have your Fremantle & Perth derbies, Swans v Perth etc etc, but we would see say Subiaco play North Adelaide or Port Adelaide Magpies take on Claremont....And worked around on a top 6 finals series... Its a long shot but I would rather this way, than having have our comp become a Eagles and Dockers support network.

But firstly I want it to see it left as it is... This would be a last resort.

Good on ya Dennis and good on ya Gerard Neesham for bringing some sense to all this hysteria that the sky's going to fall down unless WCE and Fremantle have a reserves team in the WAFL. Give me a break.

I see that weasel from the WAFC has stealthily started to put the hard word on club president's to buckle under. It will be the dangle of the mouldy carrot with a few coins attached that will be their first approach. Next will come the big stick. I predicted those WAFC fifth-columnists would do West Coasts and Freos bidding for them. They need to change their name to what they really are - propoganda dept of the AFL. How these guys sleep at night has got me stuffed.

What a suprise, Hagdorns all for it... gee wouldnt have seen that coming.

Every point he made about the Pro-AFL inclusion in the WAFL made no sense. When a caller to 6PR asked how would they (WCE & FREO) fit into the WAFL salary cap and points system, Hagdorn replied that that would be impossible... The caller then asked for an answer to his question and in the end he got nothing.

This is a big question that cannot be answered positively by pro-supporters of this concept. The real answer is this.... inequity. And that is not acceptable.

I believe they are trying to do that with the NEAFL next year and to a lesser extent the FOXTEL Cup
