Default Xiu Xiu
Any other Xiu Xiu fans here?

I'm a huge fan, especially because Jamie Stewart is actually one of the nicest musicians I've ever met. I know their music isn't for everyone (to put it mildly), but I'm curious to see if there are other fans here. If so, what are your favorite albums? Mine are Fabulous Muscles and Dear God I Hate Myself.

I'm sure Jamie is a nice person and I'm convinced that he really does care for his fans (did you see him smoking burnt hair from his fans!?). I'm actually not bothered by the fact that he has strong opinions. That's a big part of why I like his music so much! His obnoxious behavior does seem intentional, so now that you mention he doesn't have much fun in Xiu Xiu, it makes sense. I wonder why he isn't so fond of Xiu XIu...

YES! Jamie is a weird one, though. Sometimes he seems very nice and sometimes he's incredibly douchey. I wish Coralee hadn't left. I'm not a huge fan of the first few albums, but they've been getting more accessible with each album. My favorites are The Air Force, Dear God I Hate Myself and Always (in no particular order). As for the other albums, EPs and side-projects, they all have some fantastic songs, but they suck as a whole.

Jamie has very strong opinions, yes. I've interviewed him several times and also communicated with him as a friend a bit, and he's always (no pun intended) been quite kind and supportive. I was facing a potential legal problem, and he even asked a lawyer friend about it for me. He's also said recently that being in Xiu Xiu isn't fun for him (he prefers his side projects like XXL that he does with Larsen), which makes me a little sad. I'm glad he still makes the music.

On a lighter note, a friend of mine in Texas went to see them, despite my warning that it would be intense and loud and not her style. She said it just sounded like noise and left pretty early. I'm just bummed that when they came to my town (Madison, WI), their drum machine suddenly broke and they couldn't play. I'd been looking forward to the show for a long time.
