i love patti, but sweet fucking jesus do i wanna take some shears, product, and a flat iron to her mop.
I love how she looks... except it is annoying when I try to show someone a video and they're like "who's that guy? Tom Petty really let himself go".

Menju56, the pic(?) you posted won't show for me, can you link it, please? Would love to see it.

JIM, ~gasp~, none of Patti's albums suck! But I'll rank too anyway, with the understanding that I love all of them:

Horses
Peace and Noise
Easter
Trampin'
Gone Again
Dream of Life
Gung Ho
Wave
The Coral Sea
Radio Ethopia
Twelve

You're right, it's not working! Gah. Here's the link:

I think my two fave albums are Horses and Radio Ethiopia which I think is generally quite underrated.

Default Patti Smith
This is kind of a commercial (but not really) but here's a brief interview with Patti about her songwriting process versus literary writing, and talking about Shure microphones, which is her brand of choice.

Horses pretty much saved my life. I love it so. The coolest rock and roller in the gig.

I feel the exact opposite. I think she looks so free and lovely and simple and real.

i understand the feeling. and i do respect it. there's absolutely nothing wrong with the way she looks. i mean, she's the GODMOTHER OF PUNK, for chrissakes. she can look however the hell she wants. but i can't help think "what if we just snip off these split ends and run a comb through here..."

my curious mind just never quits running the gamut of "what if?"s

I hear ya. But I find her so inspiring as is. I would not want a styled Patti. Eek, no! But I understand your sentiment. Sometimes you just have to chuckle because she presents herself in such an uncompromising, even jarring way.

Also did you watch the video, because she talks about focusing on looks and how ubiquitous and all-consuming it is now. So I was suprised you would respond like that.

i just finished watching it. it's a great clip. of course, what she's saying IS true. esp about botox, credit cards, and modern celebrity. but even those folks she was running with in the chelsea hotel days had carefully crafted looks and personas. leonard cohen has spoken at length about how being well-dressed is just something he's never thought twice about. his father was a tailor and the suit'n'tie is just part of who he is.

i digress. patti is a free spirit and i'd never expect her, of all people, to jump ship from her ideals and start dressing in couture and becoming the new face of revlon's anti-aging cream.

Ha ha, I gotcha. Although ironically patti does sport Prada and Gucci from time to time. Me personally I worry over how I look too much (I think we all do, it's just part of culture now), so i am so refreshed and inspired seeing someone truly march to the beat of their own drummer and just be free and beautiful in their own way.

Part 1 - She briefly talks about the Spanish translation publication of Just Kids. Then she plays "Grateful" from Gung Ho.

Part 2 - She recites "People Have the Power" as a poem, talks briefly about how she worked in a bookstore and the life of William Blake and compares his struggles to the economic crisis, and then plays "My Blakean Year."

This is a little brief bit of Patti addressing an audience at a festival. The main reason I'm posting it is because she briefly talks about recording the new album, it says they should finish recording it this fall.

She so is. I saw her at ABC in Glasgow a couple of years ago and she absolutely killed it, she has the energy on stage of a woman half her age. So funny, the woman next to me was totally off her face and kept yelling right into my ear, "HORRRR-SEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES, PATTI!"

i introduced a friend to patti last night. she had never even heard of her before. (i'll forgive, since she's quite young.) the "babelogue/rock'n'roll n*gger" 1-2 punch blew her mind.

/sigh

i wanna see patti live.
