Default thinking about move from sosua to las terrenas
Hi
I live in sosua but i'm tempted to move to las terrenas.
Mainly i'm staying in sosua because:
1 it's a little city and have almost everything i need in walking distance (i don't need a car or a moto)
2 nice integration of dominicans and expats
3 price of living not so expensive
4 have big supermarket (in walking distance too)
5 restaurants and disco (or something to do at night)
6 weather, hot but windy and sometimes rain but not too much.
Do you think i will find the same things in LT, or better/worse?
Anyone did the same move?

It's more or less the same in LT, depends where you'd live in LT.

Electricity supply is reliable although more expensive.
Beaches are nicer.
Living costs can be very cheap >>>> Yanadu style, that is...

Thanks.
donP where's the best place to live in LT? Is the dominican pueblo far from the turistic area?
From what i've read there's a lot of residences for turists in front of the beach.

Have you ever been to Las Terrenas? Las Terrenas and Sosua are very different places. Las Terrenas lots of Italians and French and the restaurants reflect that, not much diversity. The beach is nice but not as many people on the beach, Sosua is nice because your only an hour or so from Santiago if you need to buy certain things, LT is pretty much off on its own. I like both locations it will come down to your personal tastes.

Where I live.
Well, that would very much depend on your needs and priorities, of course.

Is the dominican pueblo far from the turistic area?
LT is widespread and has parts like Barbacoa, Cosón, Los Puentes....
But, of course, you can live near or in a 'barrio' if you wish for 'integrated living' (term?) or to immerse yourself in the awesome culture.

From what i've read there's a lot of residences for turists in front of the beach.
This is correct.

Well, there are Dominican restaurants, and even a Bavarian ( ) and a Russian one.

LT is pretty much off on its own.
In a way, yes.
On the other hand the toll road to SD takes you there in less than 2 hours.

Thanks for the replies.
One more question...do you think it's necessary to have a car or a moto in LT?
Or everything is walking distance?

As I said LT is spread out, parts of it are as far as 4 miles from the centre....
So, it really depends where you live.

The OP already lives in Sosua!
The choice seems to be for a small town rather than a large city lifestyle.
I like Sosua, as mentioned the beaches are nicer in LT.
Rent for three months and follow your feelings.

Las Terrenas: (Pros & Cons)

1. Beautiful beaches. No, stunning beaches!
2. Beautiful drive to Samana and surrounding areas.
3. One nice supermarket.
4. Beautiful surrounding terrain and fauna.
5. Close drive to Samana, and two of the nicest, most stunning beaches on the island: Playa Fronton & Playa Rincon.
6. Proximity to Santo Domingo.
7. Some really nice small hotels on the beach.
8. Playa Bonita

Cons

1. Santo Domingo is a 2 hour drive "One way" just to the edge of the city; to cross the city anytime between 7am and 7pm you will need one more hour, making a round trip from Las Terrenas 5.5 to 6 hours.
2. Lots of French and Italians who, no fault of their own, smell funny, look funny, and taste funny.
3. Only "One" good supermarket within a 2 hour drive of Las Terrenas. However, it is dowtown on the mainstreet, in the Nova Scotia plaza (I forget the real name of the Plaza, sorry.) It's a nice supermarket...but its the only "supermarket."
4. Not many girls to choose from. if your gay, forget about it! There's only one good drag queen in the whole town, and she's used up. Sadly, I think she may have been deported back to Haiti. Well, at least that opens up the market for a monoply. i'm thinking about trying to fill her shoes.
5. You need to bring your own girl with you to Las Terrenas. Not many choices, unless Mountain Annie is available? There's a profound lack of beautful women in Las Terrenas. The same girls get rotated around so that: "You never lose your girlfriend, you just lose your turn."
6. The French and Italians are notoriously cheap, cheap, cheap!
7. Too many French and Italians, and they smell funny...did i mention this already?
8. They like to play with matches.
