Devil's Advocate Game - Sign Ups Closed!
 

Just wondering if there are enough active people to participate in a little "debate game." In Australia, it's called Mass Debate.

We will call these games Devil's Advocate. The host will be the DA Host.

Players will sign up and randomly be assigned to the PRO or CON side of the topic. If you are assigned to that side, you must argue that side! This means Devil's Advocacy WILL happen. Hence, the name of the game!

I believe this sort of game will promote healthy debate and improve debating skill. Even -actually, especially!- if you argue against what you believe, you will learn how to provide a convincing argument for any side while opening your eyes to the opponent's view point.

If this is alright with the mods, I'd like to take sign ups. If there aren't enough people on one team, someone may be cut to reduce the number of players to make the teams even. If someone is cut, they will have priority for the next game. I will be taking sign-ups for 1 week or until the roster is full. If you miss this game, please post so you can get priority for the next game.

Debate topics will be graded on

• Factual evidence provided
• Logical consistency
• Strong rebuttals of opposing points

And I will be your host. I'd like to start with some simple topics and move on to more current issues if we seem to be active and progressing.

Geez, when I was the debating champion of NSW many, many moons ago, debating teams consisted of only 3 per side and the 'Devil's Advocate' rule was par for the course.

*we often said we disagreed with a topic we actually agreed with to be put on the affirmative team* LMAO

Anyway.....yes, I will do this. Sounds like fun.

I am just not interested in calling it Mass Debate or calling myself the Mass Debater. :|

This isn't formal debating, but if we get popular maybe we can get a nice little team thing going. The problem with formal, small teams is if they aren't on during the same time zone the team fails with lack of discussion.
