I drive a Skoda - Octavia vRS.
For all terms and purposes it's a VW/Audi - with the majority of components shared on the production line.
My Octavia is solid and quality built and the TFSI engine is absolutely lovely.

Anyone who takes the **** out of Skoda these days really doesn't know what they are talking about.
If I ever "talk cars" with people I do mention I drive a Skoda early on - those that do the visual "snigger" or similar I immediately know where their car knowledge is.
The Skoda of today (and the past 5-6 years) is very different from the Skoda of the 80's and 90's.

well exactly, even the old felica wasn't bad once it was essentially a polo. so once they got the styling sorted out they turned out to be good cars. imo they have gone from good to very good over the last few years.

same as the Skoda badge to people it will always be a Skoda

its the stigma, that sadly will never be broken.

what doesn't help is that its still seen as a poor man's VW, when really its the clever choice.

Will never be broken? It's slowly breaking down nonetheless:
"By 2005, Škoda was selling over 30,000 cars a year in the UK, a market share of over 1%. For the first time in its UK history, a waiting list developed for deliveries by Škoda. Škoda owners in the UK have consistently ranked the brand at or near the top of the J.D. Power customer satisfaction survey during the 2000s."

So the Fabia uses the Polo AND the Golf chassis? I thought it was just the Polo chassis myself.

I also thought the Passat was based the Golf chassis, so I checked it out:

That effectively makes the Superb just a very big Golf!

If they retain some of the bodykit features for a hot hatch, then it would definately grab my eye. [yes]

Nothing against Skoda, but the car wouldn't win any prizes for looks if I was judging.

Default Skoda Fabia - Looks pretty cool!

Never though id say this, but this car is parked on the street on the way to work and it actually looks pretty decent. Never seen a Skoda that looked good, but this one is pretty hot!
