Default Pandora to be blocked in the UK
I just got an email from Pandora, they are blocking UK IP addresses from January 15th. I'm gutted, I listen to it for several hours a day. I guess I'll have to go back to BT Yahoo's similar service now, but it doesn't have such a broad range of music.

The music industry is mad, I had all I needed from a legal service, paying royalties, sometimes to bands I had no other way of listening too. Now that they've taken it away I'm not going to start paying for it elsewhere so all they've done is closed off a revenue stream for nothing in return. Idiots.

I guess there's some ways round it, which just adds to how incredibly stupid and frustrating the industry's behaviour is. I want to listen to it openly and fairly, and I want the artists to get their royalties. The record companies hurt everyone with this out and out greed.

This is completely retarded [cursing]. I've actually bought a few cd's through discovering artists on Pandora! And besides, it's more like a radio anyway; you can't choose a particular song and you can't rewind it!

Anyways, it's time to read up on proxy's now...

I'm sorry to hear that. I use Pandora all the time so I can see how one would be upset over this.

It's not just the UK they'll be blocking - pretty much most non-US countries won't have access to it for much longer. The reason they give is apparently the licensing fees system they use only operates in the US.
