Examples of Real McCarthyism

Almost certainly in consequence, diCarlo was passed over for a full-time professorship.

Oh, **** off. What a bunch of horseshit.

Shame on you che for posting this ****. I only read the last paragraph ("Waterloo" caught my eye), but that is just a ridiculously terrible article. It's good to know that if I wear a "We Are All Africans" shirt to work and I don't get appointed director, I can blame the shirt in public.

So you read the last paragraph and figure you got the whole thing, huh? Is that how you read your PC texts? http://www.discussworldissues.com/fo...milies/nod.gif

If you don't think the religious wackos here aren't capable of destroying careers and maligning people, you need to read a bit more.

The overwrought style gets annoying after a while, but I can believe this sort of thing happened. However, I do have to wonder about the fellow who taught at a college named after John Calvin and expected to get a fair hearing on evolution. It's actually quite miraculous that he got off.

So are you arguing about this section:
A student became incensed when diCarlo explained that human beings had evolved and filled up the world by migrating around it; she complained to the administration, and diCarlo found himself explaining his case again to the Associate Dean.

You could argue that his 'passing over' was for other reasons- neither you nor I know for certain. What is certain is that rel nuts DO attack evolutionists on a regular basis and sometimes violently, and many universities, worried about - PR, won't defend their own. The result listed is certainly plausible.

A lot of it seems very random, and not dealing with the same issues at all, for example:

A 28-year-old graduate of Edinburgh University with degrees in chemistry and forensic science, Boa was backpacking across Australia with his girlfriend, Gillian Brown. At a bar in Tumut, New South Wales, Boa had an argument over religion with another traveler, Alexander York. Later that night, it appears, York attacked Brown and in the ensuing fight, Boa was stabbed, once, in the chest. York was found guilty of manslaughter. A community center in Phnom Penh, through which Boa had traveled shortly before his death, was later founded and named in his honor, using donations from the Boa family. Additionally, I have never seen any real school not teach evolution. That includes my Lutheran aligned Liberal Arts undergrad. I mean, there they did have evolution vs. creationism debates. But the Professors of both the religion departments and the biology departments (and most of the others), seemed pretty firmly in the evolution side. Not that it was even a big discussion generally, it was just something that was decided to be done with the student funds.

I don't like how the writer adds that all these oppressed people are Christians, not atheists, as if not believing in god is something bad and/or shameful.

But you needn't worry too much; afaik the CoS endorses evolution.

Dollars, DaShi. Scientologists spend dollars. Or gold, stock options...they're really not picky. But Thetans would be the one form of currency on this Earth that's more numerous (and therefore more worthless) than the Zimbabwe dollar. We all have thousands, IIRC.

I'm not positive, but I believe that, due to their "L. Ron Hubbard is infallible" policy, they still technically believe we're descended from Piltdown Man.

They're idiots, what do you want? Something that makes sense? Good luck with that one.

I understand their point completely now. Girls. puh!

They don't need algebra to cook, do they?
