It seems the only reason people talk about Russia oil output so much and not US oil output is because consumption is so low in Russia that they're able to export much of that oil while the US is a net importer.

For sure, but that is not really what Oerdin was saying.

Anyway, Russia is mostly natural gas, not oil. It's got a little over twice as much oil as the US in proved currently economical reserves. The figure for natural gas is about eight-fold; Russia has 25% of the world's natural gas reserves.

What year are those stats and from who? Stats that I have for 2007 from BP are 9.978 for Russia and 6.879 for the US. A 43% difference.

Russia's production has also been increasing every year on year since 1998.
