No they get their power by saping it directly from the people.

They're vampires.

Makes me feel ill.

Makes me feel ill. Why? Teh Dems can do whatever they like to nominate their candidate. If teh people don't like it they won't vote for him/her.

The DNC can just get together and decide who their candidate will be without having an open primary. It isn't the government.

Eh, I am more worried about why the don't have a uniform delegate assignment system for normal delegates (winner takes all or proportional) than the supper delegates.

Have one or the other, but having both screws things up.

The people can't be trusted... if they could be, they wouldn't put up with such a system in the first place.

(And super delegates get their super powers by falling into a vat of uncounted ballots.)

It really doesn't. People could just ignore the party if they wanted to.

The delegate assignment system is liberal elitism in action. They want it to be fair so they make all elected delagates assigned proportionally. Yeah, your right, the Republicans are the ones with the mix of proportional and winner takes all, which is stupid

I watched it. It's an uninformed piece of drivel.

The concept of Superdelegates came about after Glen Beck's "all-wise people" chose McGovern (he won 1 state out of 50) and Dukakis (he promised in his acceptance speech to raise taxes) as the nominees.

It's designed to add the experience of pros to the passion of the rank-and-file. Y'know, the same way the Senate and House of Representatives are supposed to work.
