Default DVD upscaling question
I know a lot of dvd and hi-def players are now implementing some impressive upscaling for SD content. My question is how much of it is hardware dependent and PCs also capable of upscaling with typical media players (mpc, wmp, zoom, etc.)?

I reckon PCs do it much better than most standalones, all the filters are configurable and hardware accellerated DVD software can look fab within reason, of course.

There was a review of PC players a couple of years ago and they score highly on the HQV test.

^^ I think this is the review I mean.

EDIT: whoops, no it's this one: http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/...ideo,1492.html

For upscaling with MPC or WMP. FFdshow has the option to enable upscaling if you use it as the playback codec. But it does use a bit more CPU power to use it.

The only option in ffdshow I can find that would seem could be upscaling would be "resize to screen resolution." Is that the correct one or am I looking in the wrong spot?

There's different ways of doing it, my favorite was resizing to 2x my output then using filters, but I'm sure there are better ways now.

There's a FAQ
