I don't remember the campaign being Bill & Hillary, team America, but apparently it was.

The other bit has to do with Hillary's political stances way back. There's a bunch of stuff online about her siding with Black Panthers and such. I can't speak to the truth of it. I only bring it up as another possible basis for the hate (true or not).

I certainly don't rule out her gender as a major issue. I just think there is more to it...

-Arrian Bill and Hillary were McGovernites in '72 (I suspect anything about the Panthers is either a lie, or possibly, a twist on something she said) . But they were McGovernites who LEARNED, who became pragmatic, who examined different policy positions, etc. Maybe too pragmatic, in some ways.


You should see or read "Primary Colors" Its quite unsympathetic in many ways, but also lets you see some of the positives, and I think gives a good idea of where they were coming from - the idealism beneath the ruthless cynicism. Its also hilariously funny (Well the film, i havent read the book)

Hillary A. Poured scorn on Reagan admin sleaze, Bush admin elitism, and then turned out to have dealt commodities with Arkansas chicken tycoons
B. Hillary attempted to win support as a feminist, while getting ahead as a wife
C. While getting ahead as a wife, she said "i dont bake cookies"
D. She hung out with Michael Lerner and talked about the politics of meaning

Sometimes she lived up to a charictiture of herself. Given all that, theres no way the right could have NOT hated her viscerally, whatever she did or didnt do in the WH.

I post in a catholic forum were most posters are form the USA, and they really hate hillary, it is not an apolyton thing, but very general (I made a thread about this subject a year and a half ago)

It's possible that my unspecified/unknown reason for disliking her comes down to "woman in power" as much as anything else. That **** can be subconcious, and my reaction to Hillary does feel that way - knee jerk... Hillary! GAH!

I couldn't vote for Sloww. It would be like voting for Dog the bounty hunter for Prez.

Even if it was said "two for the price of one" or similar, I don't remember it being said. Further, even if it was said, she took on a role in the new administration that seemed well outside the traditional portfolio of a first lady. I think there would be similar if not equal unease with a first gentleman taking on that expanded portfolio. Ironically, the exception to that could be Bill Clinton.

"Two for the price of one" is on point with the reason for the unease, and is unsuccessful at addressing it (it's too facile). Basically, Hillary had the unfair advantage of the bedroom, while not being subjected to the ballot box.

For the record, I don't dislike Hillary.
