Default British Airways fined over price fixing
U.S., U.K. regulators impose nearly $550 million in penalties for collusion

British Airways was fined almost $550 million on Wednesday by U.S. and British regulators after the airline acknowledged colluding with rival Virgin Atlantic over fuel surcharges.
The carrier was fined 121.5 million pounds ($246 million) by Britain’s Office of Fair Trading and $300 million by the U.S. Department of Justice after parallel trans-Atlantic investigations.
In May, British Airways PLC set aside 350 million pounds ($710 million) in preparation for such penalties from regulators. LOL To pay this they need to fix price again. [rofl]

I think its bad that Virgin got off scott free.

They were just as bloody guilty, the only difference is they shopped in BA first.

I'd beg to differ. The given pardon for squealing, no questions asked, is a damn good tool to make the formation of a cartel a very paranoid job. In the future BA will not propose cartels with anybody and nobody would propose a cartel with Virgin. [thumbup]

KAL was burned too and Lufthansa as a tipper got away with it. [rofl]

I fly BA several times a year, and its good they getting thier ass kicked about something for once, they are damn greedy. From my home to the UK, tickets cost me $1500-1800USD on average, but I wont be going that route anymore.

There are new kids on the block, an airline called Zoom who can fly me for about $650

Nice to know I can save some money with the amount of trips I make yearly to see my kid in Cornwall.

I believe Korean airlines were also implicated.

British Airways need to sort their ship out. They are living on some bygone dream that they offer the greatest service know to man, when in fact their planes are dated, the service is rude and the air stewardesses can barely squeeze down the aisle.

Sign of how good an airline is; the attractiveness of stewardesses (and stewards perhaps) Have a look next time you are flying.

I hope their better than Easy Jet, as I flewn once with them. Ugh and the kind of people on there..

Ever seen episodes on TV about them? [rofl]

It's just not my style, if i can afford to travel I rather pay more. For a price difference of 900 till 1200 USD you can only expect worse service, more delays and all sorta crap.

Maybe BA overprices too much, but certainly not that much.

Not quite. As soon as the exchanges happened, Virgin alerted their legal teams to check the legality of what was going on. When they reported back it was illegal, the alerted the watchdog.

Besides, Virgin owe BA a kick in the nads... right?

You actually live on Bermuda? Wow, how is living in paradise? Actually I was looking for a job on the island and there might be a slim chance I could get to work for a company doing a project there in the future. It would be only temporal, but its a start.

Yes sir, I have lived here all my life. Its not exactly paradise, we got idiot government who is running the country into the ground, and the economy is way up there! If you have kids here there is like zero chance of them owning a home of thier own since you cant buy a house for under 1 mil USD anymore, not even in the crap parts of the island.

You would like staying here, its easy to get around, kinda boring nightlife but like the saying goes, a nice place to visit but you would not want to live there.

Btw BA dont exactly have the best service either, mind you I have never flown first class, (yeah right, I got 4000 bucks for a ticket) they are real hard asses when it comes to making amends for screwing your connections. Last year when I flew to London, they were over 1 hour late and as a result I missed my connection by 15 minutes going to Newquay, the airline is staffed by BA people at the kiosk, and after arguing with the manager I was basically told I am screwed. I lost an additional 400 bucks AND had to arrange other transportation, that meant anout 60 quid or so to get to Hethrow then to Redruth via a BUS which was HELL, I mean 9 hours of being crammed up is no fun, really

Last time down I got a train from Paddington, it was only 30 quid, took 5 hours and was a much better value

YES!!!

It's called Airline here. They film the Easy Jet crew and there are so many upset people it's unreal. I have no idea why Easy Jet would want a film crew filming just how shockingly bad the airline is! No one I know can understand why, and all agree that if they ever go to Europe to never fly with them. [rofl]

but the increases were progressive right? Slowly rising from £5 to £30 so what exactly happens to all that additional money Virgin made?

Wow, that sounds kinda sad, lol. But I guess everyone is bitching about his country while the grass is greener on the other side. So its probably a good thing to go there temporarily at first for a year or so, to see what its like.

But actually I thought you had a great nightlife... like a mix of carribean and european style or something.
