What about you Texan? I bet you don't have any windows left because you've shot them out with your gun by mistake. Yeehaa!

To you lot, an Abrams would be 'a little runaround'

Over here we measure our fuel economy in miles per gallon. Over there it's gallons per mile

My God, they keep on coming

Anyone remember the Avalon Hill Game Company? Maker of the cardboard wargames which I played as a lad: Tactics II, PanzerBlitz, PanzerLeader, Arab-Israeli Wars, Squad Leader (and many expansions), Afrika Korps, Starship Troopers, and others. Oh, and Diplomacy.

I was saddened when Hasbro bought them and basically shut them down. So the name was in tribute. Used it first for e-mail.

Ming and I grew up playing those games.

I was always amused from the suggestion That Jutland was best played on a gymnasium floor.

Oerdin Farr was my favorite AD&D character; a Half-Elf F/M/T from 1st edition. I started using the handle Oerdin on the local BBSes around the time I was late 13 to early 14 years old and later after I started surfing the web I just kept using the same handle. Prior to that I used the handle Kutter.

That all changed with the internet, I was 21. Suddenly colors weren't just for looking at, but to make really annoyingly bright posts in chatrooms... flashing when enabled! I didn't actually have anything to say, but that's exactly what these rooms seemed created for. So I adopted the nick phaedo (phaedrus was taken) and became a regular at Chat! Now, spending nights, and days...well all the time, chatting about absolutely nothing. I had easily the most boring internet personality imaginable. 15 wpm typing skills, and not enough words to put it to use. I needed a gimic.

So it was DL time! (no! not here ) phaedo is a pretty nice name, but really comes too late in the user list of chat rooms. Half the time I couldn't see my name to make sure I was there. I needed an 'A' name, and one short enough I could remember how to spell it. Keeping with the Greek theme, aeson was the perfect choice.

Shaygetz is a rude term in Yiddish, and some Jewish comrades decided ti would be fun to start insulting me in Yiddish. When that term came up, I just said, "Shaygetz? Yeah, Shaygetz Guevara" as I had learnt recently that "Che" was pronounced "shay," though some Argenchileans tell me I'm wrong, but what do they know about how he was called in Cuba? Anyway, I changed the spelling to keep the pun going in written form.

I started using it politically on the internet twelve years ago, and then just started using it for everything. I've even signed print articles under this name.
