Just wanted to remind everyone that the Wikimedia Foundation's fundraising drive is on now. They do important work and provide services that likely every single user here has benefited from. What could be more important than ensuring that information is free, unbiased and the property of all the world's citizens instead of a government or corporate tool?

Wikipedia lost my support some time ago when I found out they are only 1 of the things they claim to be, thats being free to use.
They are not completely publicly editable and they are definatly not unbiased. A few months ago I wanted to update some of the pages from people like Kissinger, that new guy appointed to the treasury and more recently Rummsfelds replacement. Their BIO pages on Wiki only display general information and the political functions they held over the years, but none of them showed the dirty dealings they were involved in, all factual, public record, all supported by evidence and in many cases things they were convicted for. Stuff like direct involvement in Iran Contra, creation and steering of Deathsquads, corruption on all levels, one of these mofo's being the CIA man in charge of creating and supporting Al-Quada and so on. Whenever you try to add something like this to Wikipedia, no matter how sourced, it gets shot down. Its a matter of public record, but yet something as free and open as Wikipedia won't allow you to let the public know whats public record. |
