My old high school (Loyola HS) is located right beside the Loyola campus of Concordia.
http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&om=1...2,0.014591&t=h (the building immediately to the right of the intersection of Broadway and Sherbrooke) For my first year of high school our building was actually located in the heart of the Concordia-Loyola campus. EDIT: more fixed links |

Police surround Concordia University
Last Updated: Tuesday, January 9, 2007 | 11:21 AM ET CBC News Montreal police have surrounded several buildings at Concordia University's western Loyola campus following reports of an armed gunman Tuesday morning. A janitor called 911 just after 9:30 a.m. ET after a man in camouflage and carrying a long black bag was spotted, said university spokeswoman Chris Mota. "Our security officers at Loyola campus were alerted by an employee who said he saw someone walking to the science complex, carrying what they felt was a suspicious package." People were evacuated from at least one campus building, and several other buildings are in lockdown while SWAT teams secure the floors, said police. "We're trying to validate the information that was given to us. At this point, [we have] no confirmation of someone inside, and we're trying to evaluate," said police spokesman Laurent Gingras. There were no reports of gunshots. The police operation has sent the campus into high alert. But students are being patient as they wait for new information, according to journalism student Sikander Hashmi, who was instructed, along with his classmates, to stay inside. "We've been told we can't leave the building. Otherwise we're calm, maybe a bit jittery and nervous, but we're OK in our classroom." Leigh Zhang, a student locked in a research laboratory with four or five other people, told CBC Newsworld that she and others around her are not jumping to any conclusions. "We are still working here, and there's no real panic, or nervous (sic), or worry or threat." The police operation prompted nearby Loyola High School to lock in students as a precaution. |
